i competed in arctic man on a snowboard 3 yrs ago
it was wild, rubber suit and all
i am not a racer so it was all new for me
but was with onads brother and some other really fast skier who you probably dont know showing me the way

my top gun speed was 75 mph on a twin tip, behind the ski, fuckin crazy and a bit scary

the best part of the trip was after the race we would find slednecks, and say
HEY betcha can' t get me up there!!
thet would throw down their beer can and haul us all the way to the top
sweet ridin in AK

Yeah don't know what we were thinking riding snowboards down the hill, we could have been dressed in latex rippin around doing 75 all day. That really sounds enjoyable. Shocked At 75 does latex really do much or is it part of the flair of the atheletes?? I am sure if I had some aero-calf deflectors we could have really had some fun. Registered,

First, I apologize if I offended you guys for hijacking your thread. Sleds, tow ropes & riders just made me think about Artic Man...

To your question:
Aerodynamic drag is a huge factor on the riders speed when on a downhill course. Hence, the rubber suits, aero helmets, calf fairings, etc. Just like in alpine ski racing, the top places are often decided by hundreds if not thousands of seconds. A rubber suit can make the difference between 1st and 5th.

The Artic Man event is a two part timed event consisting of the sled towing the skier/boarder to the top of the hill, the whipping the rider into a downhill race course which they tuck back to the bottom of the hill. The total time it takes for the rider to get from the bottom of the hill to the top and back down again decides the winner.

There are so many sleds that want to enter the event they fly skiers and boarders in from the lower 48 just so the can compete.
