Wed Dec 06, 06 1:52 pm Nelscott Reef Tow In Classic....This FRIDAY |
|
|
Nelscott Reef Tow In Classic.
Tow in....Does kiteboarding qualify as tow in? If they cancel due to Northerly winds you coasty boys should hit it.
Anyway the Nelscott Reef Tow In Surf clasic is this friday just off the Lincon city beach.
This would be fun to watch. Check out the following link

What do you mean, you have been banned?
Are you in the dog house with your wife or something?
If I were a coasty I would totally hit it, for sure Bra.

The Nelscott Reef is approximately 1 mile off shore.
If you had a high power spotting scope you would have front row seats.
But then again if the wave if 50 to 60 feet high Im sure that you could see the wave, but probably not the surfers.

It went off pretty well this morning with what I'd call 30-foot+ faces. Waves cleaned up more with the incoming tide, and there were some long walls and even some tube rides to be had. There was a chopper in the air and lots of photogs in the water so I'm sure you'll see many epic photos coming out.
Watching the maneuverability of those PWC's makes you realize how gnarly kiting is where you're solely reliant on your own skills at getting out, dropping in, and getting yourself out of trouble. Those guys have it made...However, saw some heavy situations though where riders went down and had to deal with getting caught inside by 30 feet of whitewater. Fun to watch, but I wouldn't want anything to do with it.

Good binoculars - a must! No more contests, but if its big and glassy you might see the local tow-in teams ouy there. They're gettin better, and a little more than peeved that they haven't been invited to John Forse's contest. Some politics and egos that most of us around here (mere non PWC-owning mortals) try and stay out of.

Wow! Great stuff. Looks as good as Mavricks. Is it? Too big for me to try for sure. Those waves are not that big up and down the coast right?ikite readings look doable on the Oregon coast right now and the temps look fine if one has enough neo or drysuit on. Wish I wasn't so inland and far away from the ocean.
Back to the white fluffy stuff for now.

Yes, it was just as big everywhere else. Its just that this is a surfable reef that actually breaks with some good shape, compared to most of the waves along the coast that just close out or break all over the place. Kitable? Late February or March would be the best bet, when early north winds coincide with late winter swell. Some of us have talked about trying it with jet ski safety assistance.

Sweet photo. That's probably debris from the surfboards of people who caught the previous waves . Seriously though much respect to everyone who went out there. And, his form in this pic is great. I hope the guy in the beach break photo made it out in one piece. That looks like a super heavy wave.
