also - I've heard the quality of the View's interior is pretty fragile. plastic fantastic & particle board..

I've spent many heavy Tequila nights bouncing off the walls of my View,

I don't think that your above quote is any reason to avoid a View.

This a simple excel exercise.

This is if you were able to get a view for 45K and you kept them for 5 years. 30K miles in 5 years is a shit load, which you will probably not meet but I used that number for an example. What can you do with the left over 15k if you bought a gas powered v10? That is a lot of new kites, toys for the kids, and or a few trips to maui.

If you add in resale value after 30k miles I bet you will find it is close to even or better in the View.

I don't really consider resale value on things that are on wheels, point being that they are a cost, or a depreciating asset.....

I guess I want to keep kiting and the way to do that is with the family, and at the end of the day I'm at a point in my life where I got sick of sleeping in the car. In fact I got so sick of sleeping in the car a the mountain that I just built a house there and now commute to town. Who knows, my wife is getting tired of all the snow and she says that corpus is ok.... and I like to fish.... May be the next part of life.

nicely built Hein,

My wife and I had MH for almost 40 yrs.

Probably a Winnebago, 10 mpg, was best when we had children, can sleep 6,$25K and sold for $11K
Then my wife and I decided to some traveling and kiting
we purchased a 32' Monaco Dynasty 10 mpg diesel 6 speed $95k sold after 8 yrs, 130k miles $48k
can't do any better than living in a penthouse for only $8k per year,
but it's was too large,

Now we had 24'1970 Cabana RV on a Dodge chassis 10 mpg ,sleep 2 adults 2 children
We rebuilt it over the last 3 years in the winter, we bought two Cabana and robbed some the pieces
total cost was $8K

My wife took a trip with her friend in a Roadtrek
old lady driving they got 29 mpg
but no shower
they payed $120K single bed

We spend all most all time outside when warm
nice and cozy when snowing

Thanks for the compliments, guys. Nice restoration, Jon. That's a classic!

We started with vans and eventually a 'moho' when our kids were young. Fun times for sure. We drove it here when we moved to HR and lived in it for a month in January at the Bridge RV park. Then I took it to Texas a bunch of times and eventually sold it. That Texas coast brine air was starting to take it's toll on things.

I did look at some diesel pushers before deciding on a Sprinter. I guess I wanted a project.... and.... I got a project!

Need some 3M Thinsulate to insulate your van or RV? PM me.

hein nice work. I went through all those pages on that rv forum and you documented it well. makes me want to get one and start building it out.
hey steve, I've been real happy with the sunrader. it's larger enough to sleep two adults in cabover and two adults in table in rear. its got a bathroom and kitchen but what I love is it is small to where its fairly easy to maneuver and stealth camp when needed. it's toyota 4 banger gets upper teens but the biggest drawback is going uphill seems its a little stubborn and doesn't take to hills as fast as a car.

Thanks for taking the time to read my build thread. I'm happy to help anyone with their Sprinter project. I don't intend to build Sprinter vans. I would recommend Outside Vans or Van Specialties for that. But if you want' to DIY, I can help.

Thanks Hein And Gman

I would agree the rv project was pretty difficult ,
Rv's are not put together the first time very well,
so it's pretty hard to get it together the next time
