I do miss Hawaii though. After living on Oahu for 3 years, leaving was very hard. Even though I visit 30-60 days a year most years, you just can't get the the same vibe as living there. You just can't wind all the way back to "Island Time" At least I can't... But visiting is still cool; it's a feeling you just can't get anywhere else.
Kitemare, you may get incredible riding, you may get skunked. It really doesn't matter. Just enjoy and accept what Namaka and Pele offer up to you and you and yours will have a wonderful time. (Goddess of the Sea, Goddess of the Wind--volcanoes and lightning too, but who cares about that? ) |

Ahhhhhh, you guys are making me miss Oahu so bad right now!!
Acai bowls at Bogarts....mmmm...
I learned to kite on Oahu's north shore, Mokuleia. Seriously, 7-9m warm wind all summer long! And there are so many different spots to check out!! Mokuleia, Kailua/Lanikai, Kahala, Diamond Head, Laie, Hawaii Kai, Barber's point, the list goes on and on...
The only downside: Oahu gets spells with no wind in the off season sometimes 1-3 weeks. Then it turns back on!
Where does one get a good acai bowl in Portland or Seattle? I think Kure in Hawthorne was the only one I've had out here? _________________ I see rainbows: LiveAloha.

And this is why nwkiters rock, best knowledge around. Bringing a 7, 10, and 12 plus my 132 misfit. I Might try and rent a surf board for a bit.
Wind or no wind, it's going to be awesome. I'm going to have to nerd out and make an excel chart with every place to go and eat.
just found out all the climbing spots have been shut down, kind of a bummer but still lots to do.
thanks everyone. _________________ Respect the kite, respect the beaches |

Grass skirt grill in Haleiwa for lunch. Ahi plate is the best meal on Oahu. Personally, I like the kiting on Oahu better than on Maui. It doesn't blow as hard or as often as on Maui, but the quality is there. And the surfing is the best. Especially head over to the Kahuku/Laie side. Even if it's not windy, the coastline over there is gorgeous and very uncrowded. If it's windy Goat Island/Malakahana Bay is fun. Then watch the sunset from the Turtle Bay Pool bar overlooking Turtle and Kawela bays. Reminding me that I need to get my next trip planned. Have fun. |

Don't bother bringing a 7m to Oahu, 10m+14m would be more like it.
I wouldn't bet on any wind at Mokes in the winter and there's no shelter from the swell up there. It's a nice place to take a drive though and you can do very nice glider flights as well.
Make sure and take some moonlight strolls on the beach on the North shore too, all the little sand crabs running all over the place.
You'll want to hit Kailua windy or not, it's an amazing spot. Highly recommend getting a rental vehicle with a roof rack while you are Hawaii. Grab a SUP from Naish in Kailua and head out to Flat Island if there is no wind. |

Even with the wife, choose 10-12-14 or 10-12-17 over 7-10-12. Looking at the forecast, you'll be on the 14 and she on the 12. Bring a light wind board as well if at all possible... In 10 years of riding Oahu as a visitor, I've used a 10m twice. My most used kite? A 17m Turbine. You'll spend days sitting on the beach waiting for the wind to inch up just a little bit so you can ride your 12m. It sucks you in that way! 7m are light, so wouldn't hurt to bring it. But bring at least a light wind board or a 14m, or both. |

pretty sure you could rub it in a little more how I don't own anything over a 12
I was thinking of bringing my glide but could probably just rent a large surf board or an SUP just as easily there.
Figured I bring the 7. Doesn't take up any extra space and if I don't have it, it's going to blow 40 the whole week just to smite me _________________ Respect the kite, respect the beaches |

Doh! Sorry!
Yeah, the surfboard is a good choice. Works for light winds, works for no wind. |
