Are there any kiters kiting in the Tri City area on the Columbia? Where and which wind direction works?? What kind of wind speeds do you see (kite sizes?) ??

I grew up there. Wind always seemed onshore or offshore depending on what side of the river you're on, and big kites. Last time I kited there I boosted onto land showing off for my nephews. They enjoyed it, I was black and blue.
Make the drive to Roosevelt if you have the time. Great swell, grass to rig, bathrooms, free camping.

First Question... How desperate are you? J/k, but seriously! Tri-Cities is a tough kite spot. I have launched a few times from Columbia Point and ridden between the point and Bateman Island. It works but the wind is very gusty and shifty. As far as kite size I would size it for the lull and hang on through the gusts. Not a beginner spot. You do not have the current on your side most places. I also would suggest driving to Roosevelt if you have the time.

I've land kited in parking lots over by the baseball stadium off road 68 in pasco, but only attempted one water session on the columbia from the pasco side. I rigged up next to the boat launch at the end of road 54. this launch worked on a west wind but like others said, punchy and gusty.
so gusty I've only tried it once, don't need to go through that again. you might check out Sacajawea park also. I've heard of someone trying that spot.
you would def get better results if you commit to driving out to 3 mile or roosevelt.

That's what is really frustrating about the Tri-Cities. There is always a little bit of wind, and then some days you see white caps and think game on. Its just junk wind and current is never in your favor. Stick with golf, wakeboarding, or SUP when in the Tri-Cities and drive to Roosevelt for kiting.

Hanford downwinder! Wouldn't that be something. We can get this photo of someone getting massive air in front of Reactor B.
On another note I saw a video online of someone kiting at Potholes state park near Othello. I also always thought the surrounding dryland wheat farm hills of the Tri-cities might be a good location for snow kiting.
