Hello this is my first time posting. I have a question. I bought a used liquid force 9.5 kite and it seems too have a lot more line than I am used too. I was wondering if any one has a diagram on how and what lines go where.

Thank you for your time,
Chris

"a lot more line".... are you saying that the line lenght seems like its too long or is there is a typo in there and you meant to say "a lot more lines"?

FYI, these "lines" you speak of are usually referred to as ropes or chords.

One line goes to the left tip and the other line goes to
the right. Hope this helps!

If it's one of the newer 6-line setups, this may help. The nipple-bars cost extra and take a while to get used to.

If you actually do have a 9.5m Kite, then Hobbsla's picture is the actual kite you have, the 2nd generation/year2 Liquid Force Flight Kite from 1999/2000.
This was a two line kite that could be converted to 4 lines if you rolled up the wingtips and ziptied them into place. (This was my 3rd kite from back in the day).

I think this would be best used as a tent, awning or if in good condition put on display somewhere.

Did anyone else notice the guy (Scott Cook?) out on the yellow Naish two line kite today up by the WS bridge?
It looked like he still had the original wrist leash for the kite and a nice coiled board leash. It seemed to be working for him, but scares me just to think about riding that setup compared to the more modern gear.

Yes I did.
And it did look like he had a wrist leash on. The kite was in pretty mint condition.

Also, he seemed to be having no trouble. He even was boosting over the small exposed part of the sandbar.

Definitely fun to see someone making the "old" gear look easy.

Ya, I’m going mounting climbing on Everest next week with my father’s 1950 vintage gear! I’ll let you know how this turns out. In fact, I did this, that is go out and climbed my first 9,000 foot peak in my father’s old 1950 gear as a youth.

Looking back my father must have taken out a life insurance policy with him as the benefactor.

Time does wonderful things to rope, leather, straps and canvas, let along the safety derived from technology advancements.

Yup, that's Cookie (Scott Cook). He does rule it on his 2 line kite, but he only pulls it our on somewhat steady windy days as I think that it is the 7m kite, which was one of the only sizes that really worked well enough from back in the day. He loves to keep it retro, but I would not consider riding anywhere downwind of him on those days (with him lacking any depower).

Even though I used to ride kites like that back in the day, you couldn't pay me enough money to hook myself back into one of those things again, noooo way!

I can't remember what was harder, unhooking from the fixed harness line on a 2-line kite with no depower or unhooking from the chicken loop (with no quick release) on a 4-line kite with limited depower. I think the old 4-line kites were almost worse (safety wise) since you had to sheet the kite in all the way before you could unhook/release.

I guess in those days you couldn't release the kite in an emergency, you just got taken for a ride.

Scott gave me my only lesson. Before their were any other instructors around. He had me flying a 2 line 5M in the empty lot where the new park is now. He did not give any lessons in the water. I left with bloody knees and a smile I love seeing Scott still out their one of the true gorge original kiter's
