What do you think the wind will be like at Jones or Sauvie Island today?

I don't see why Jones wouldn't go. Onshore flow, temps, and pressure gradients look to be good, and clouds are already burning off. When that happens, Jones is usually pretty reliable.

No idea about Sauvie. Never been there - and I'm not sure if it ever really takes off. Wink

Who cares about sauvies with the quality winds we have been enjoying. Jones is already 13-19 and should reach mid twenties by afternoon. I would be there but stuck at work. Looks like it should go today and tomorrow and then head east of the cloud line for the weekend. Get some:)

For me Sauvie is a great spot for the middle of the week because I work downtown and don't get off from work until 5, so when it blows there its perfect for me. Only a 30 min drive from my office and there is no traffic heading over there, even at rush hour. It would take me almost two hours to get to Jones beach from downtown PDX taking the rush hour traffic into account.

Sauvie is a great spot for all the PDX office type kiters.

I would love to ride sauvies. When does it go? Jones was good today, did anyone get rides at sauvies today? I've read the location guide about sauvies but this didn't keep me from getting skunked there once.

To those of you who ride sauvies, what do you look for that indicates wind? Is it jones minus 5 knots? What size kite do you typically use when it goes? And lastly, there's a nude beach around there, does wearing only a harness count as naked?

nice shot from sauvies! here's a shot taken about the same time but just upwind of you from woodland.
got there a little bit late so experienced the flood current, making it a challenge, but still nice to kite
good crowd today got to finally meet some locals.

I think Fly Dunes is the expert on forecasting Sauvie's but he's in Germany on a bicycle tour. I go there often because it is convenient after work like frmercado mentioned.

I look at three websites:
SailFlow - http://www.sailflow.com/spot/1219#forecast (They tend to be optimistic)
Scappose aviation forecast - http://www.usairnet.com/cgi-bin/launch/code.cgi?Submit=Go&sta=KSPB&state=OR
Wind on the water - http://windonthewater.com/

I think some people look at tempreture differences between the coast and PDX, barometric readings, etc. Sauvie's is definately not as good as Jones, the beach or the Gorge. If I didn't live nearby, I would never go there but it does offer a good alternative when its working and the people are great.

Stringy that was fun. Hopefully the next time we will have a little more wind and the tide in our favor. Thank you for the light wind gear demo ! Very Happy That board is awesome.

Where do you launch in Woodland? I tried Kalama yesterday but too light. On the way back to the Couve I stopped at Horseshoe Lake Park. On a strong day it could be a good flat water spot.

Past the new Wal Mart out to the Dike Access road. Head south at the road split you will see Martins Bar on the right. Bumpy gravel road to a big parking lot.

There is an awesome cove for launching and some sweet butter ..............IF there is wind and you have the tide going the right way.
