Mon Jul 22, 13 7:40 am DynaBar is great |
|
|
I found a product that I love and have to share the stoke. I got a Dynabar from Jay and its great. I love it so much I dont know how I ever used a stationary hook.
It is great to see a new product on the market in an industry of greedy sedentary kite manufacturers who have not progressed kite design, kite manufacturing or developed any thing new in the last 5 years. ( changing colors and canopy profile is not new product development ). Kites have gone stale. Call me when there is something new and exciting on the market.
I ride a strapless surfboard at kitebeach and have about 30-40 days on the DynaBar. I dont like to wear my harness so loose that it slides around on me. I prefer my harness to be snug and have the hook slide
When I read the reviews on the intraweb they spoke of it sliding and jerking and surprising them. It got pretty bad reviews but the concept makes sense to me so I ordered one to try. They said that it could be very jerky and unpredictable. Hard to use ...
Not so. It's a joy to use !
It always pulls in the direction of the kite. As it should. ( I say to the people who did not get that when they tried it, DUH ! ) So predictable. It always pulls in the direction of the kite.
Super smooth and silky. No surprises.
It has improved my riding and comfort while riding a ton !
Everyone should try a sliding hook to see if you like it. you may like it and you may not but I think every kiter should try one.
Im converted, no stationary hooks anymore. I really love the sliding hook ! _________________ Ozone Reo's. C&k Beach Boy Service, Windsurfing Waikiki, Hawaiian Windriders, NSRN. |

I'm with ya on the sliding spreader bars...but it seems like they're been around for a while. I also could see them surprising first time users.
As far as kites, it does seem to be mostly about safety and convenience features these days...not that I have any ideas to make kite range-ier or fly better.
Also, pretty sure Ozone spells it "Reo" |

Yah, I knew it is spelled Reo but keep forgetting to change it. Hey, Im a surfer ...
I just posted the review because its the only product that has stoked me above the rest in the last 5 years.
We need more products that are designed to provide stoke.
Most of the Mfg's are stuck in the " oh shit we have 4 x as many SKU"s as we should so we will cut back on development and revolve our world about getting our stuff to the trade show on time " They have like 250 line items and think that changing color every year is updating equipment. They have all sat on their heels for way too long. I have heard all the excuses. I have heard those excuses from the top. It is no longer about product, its about the revenue.
We need something fresh in kiting. I am a gear junkie and I love to see new stuff.
Just stoked on it, thats all. Happy to be stoked about a kiting product. _________________ Ozone Reo's. C&k Beach Boy Service, Windsurfing Waikiki, Hawaiian Windriders, NSRN. |

I agree. I posted a Jaybar review a while back and the thread turned into a bunch of posts about being able to do it yourself for cheaper....which go way off the point.
I have been riding the Dyneema rope version for three years now. It allows one to ride toeside so much better than a fixed bar. Complete game changer for people who want to ride swell/waves.
Great product! |

I was industry from wooden booms and wooden snowboards. Just love to surf and kite and kitesurf now.
Thats why I ride the Reo. I can daydream and even forget that Im kiting and it wont bite me in the ass. Great ADD kite. Prolly good for ADHD as well.
I would not mind seeing a harness that had the slider bar integrated a bit more so it goes about 160 degrees around. Saw one a couple of years ago but it seemed to go away.
Jaybar is probably making money. I dont really know but it seems like good business to make only a couple of great products or versions of one product and do that REALLY REALLY well. Overhead stays low. Profit goes up and quality can stay the focus.
I dont usually talk shit about bad products but I love to point out good new ones.
Now all I need are strapless magnet shoes ..... I'm not going to do it but I will buy a pair !
So all of you trustafarians out there with too much money and not enough things to keep you busy, GET ON IT !!!! _________________ Ozone Reo's. C&k Beach Boy Service, Windsurfing Waikiki, Hawaiian Windriders, NSRN. |

If you’re also looking for something totally NEW, check this out !! Five of us here have purchased the Zeeko Ultimate Bar and it rocks, the Prusik knot arrangement is just great. It’s probably time that we post our thoughts on this bar with a new thread. Please check these video’s out and if you’re interested in trying a Zeeko bar please let me know, you can try mine!

I got it through ColoradoKiteforce but you can order them online. I know Air Padre has them but probably others too. _________________ Ozone Reo's. C&k Beach Boy Service, Windsurfing Waikiki, Hawaiian Windriders, NSRN. |

I was looking at that jay dynabar but because no one in town carried it, I couldn't do the touchy freely thing.
I got the dakine slider bar and am enjoying it very much. I am still fairly new, and it's not uncommon for me to have to do the 'walk of shame' back up the beach, the slider makes it so much easier. After having read the reviews on the jay bar and using the dakine slider bar, I'm all in. I would describe the dakine slider bar as the 'poor man's' slider bar, it works just fine but the Jay bar sounds like a bit smoother/faster action. I don't find the slider bar jerky at all, but my transitions aren't very aggressive yet. _________________ Thanks

If you ride toe side very much (either with a twin tip or a surf board); then a slider bar definitely makes a difference.
I have been riding the Dakine slider bar for 5 years. Similar to Dynabar, Dakine puts out a new and better model slider bar each year.
From my experience:
When riding heel side, there is very little need for your attachment point to slide at all and dead center works great.
When riding toe side, the pull from the kite is off to one side or the other to some degree and it makes a huge difference when using a slider bar so that your body is not torqued out of an athletic stance. Simple ergonomics and body position.
Try one. And if you see me, take mine out for a spin. |

@Chrissmack - that is the one I'm using. I like it a lot. From what I can tell (without having used the dynabar) is the dynabar looks like a bit smoother action, and you have the choice of bar or rope. For the price, I went Dakine to test out if I liked a slider, I would buy the Dakine again but I would also really like to try the Dynabar. _________________ Thanks

I use the dyneema and love it. Haven't even tried the metal bar attachments, because the dyneema rope is o good/easy. |

Slightly OT, sorry.
Flysurfer just came out with some new ideas for its Cronix LEI.
Those dudes at Flysurfer come up with some pretty good designs, and I'm intrigued with this one.
I'd like some more reviews, from both sides of the house, before I buy though.
