Heard a rumor that you can't drive on the beach anymore at whiskey run. Anyone know the facts here from a recent visit?

I was just down there this weekend, rumors are true. Bandon Dunes owns the land the road is on and is shutting it down to make way for their new golf course. bummer...

Can one still access the kiting/sailing areas at Whiskey Run even though apparently Bandon Dunes has blocked access to driving on the beach.

Is the kiting beach access at end of 7 Devils Rd or after turning west on Whiskey Run Rd? In other words, is Whisky Run above (N) or below (S) of the little point/rocks?

I will be staying at Bullard Beach State Park later this week. Is there any reason why it is better upwind at Whiskey Run (than at the Bullard Beach state park)?

I guess I'll figure it out but any help appreciated Smile

yup I believe you can still access it. You just can not drive down the sand all the way. Just drop in and go down til you can drive back up the beach from Bandon. Makes for a sweet long down winder. I am sure you can PM Bolt on here. Andy Bolt is his name and I am sure he will tell you what he can. He is selling a couple of Z's in the classified if you need to PM him. have fun

I just did Whiskey run on Saturday and it was still open to driving. I did one downwinder with the local crew going down about 1/2 way between Whiskey run and Bullards. Then I did a solo shot from Whiskey all the way to Bullards and the waves are much cleaner from the Whiskey run put in to about the 1/2 way point then the waves and riptide get real weird. The wind actually picked up closer to Bullards but the waves get real funky. The beach gets a lot steeper and gets a little shore poundy. Still totally doable either way. If you have 2 vehicles that can drive on the beach, I would recommend doing the 1/2 way trip a couple of times over a full ride to Bullards.

There is a great crew down there that I seem to run into everytime I go. Just pull onto the beach and go to the right and you will probably see a group of cars parked next to the bluff. They park there because of the tide I'm told. You do need a pretty decent 4x4, as there is a pretty deep chunk of sand at the entrance. Definitely hit it up, it is one of my favorite spots on the coast.

Micah, we must have just missed you. Was doing the run all last week and you are spot on with your advice. About half way the waves change and the wind seems to be a bit more on shore. Still super fun but a little more challenging to go down the line.

best thing about that spot is the waves are clean even when its blowing 25-30. Sat was pretty big with some meaty sets rolling through!!
