Lessons? No need. Flatwater SUP is a fairly basic endeavour.
Check out some good introductory websites, go rent a good beginner board, proper length paddle, flotation devices, and proper clothing/wetsuits for the conditions. Head to the Hook, Waterfront Park, or Basin, and have a good time.
Although learning with a good instructor will always increase the learning speed, flatwater SUP is not really something that I would even consider paying for a lesson. More fun to learn with a friend after checking out some of the basics.
I learned on Maui about six years ago when I was working for Naish. Michi and Robby were really starting to get the company into developing SUP's, and we were the guinea pigs. No lessons, just headed down to the water to give a good laugh to Kalama! Really, it only took a few sessions before I was venturing out into the waves to get a proper good thrashing. Have fun...
Check out some decent sites, and I bet with a little investigation you can find even better ones!
