snow kiting oregon is like ice climbing oregon
It takes motivation to keep an eye out to move at the drop of the hat when the conditions present them selves.
Or if you get high enough (elevation) you can usually succeed but the approaches
are maybe the biggest adventure..
Get after it..
we have been procrastinating steens mtn and diamond peak .. motivation wanes..
the place by bend was sweet until it wasnt...
the glass is half full

The Honey Hole: Clearing off the east side of Elder Rd: http://goo.gl/maps/v8UAe
It works on strong east days. I've tried a few times, never got it, and gave up.

Here's a couple of shots from Laurence Lake, ten miles outside of Parkdale. Gusty west winds, glad I brought the seven meter kite. Any guesses to what kind of kite? Old e but a good e.

How thick was the ice? I know people play hockey up there.

That spot looks like it would be on the lee side of the hill in an east wind. Is that not the case?

the lake actually works pretty well in both east and west winds - more steady away from the parking spots at the dam towards the far shore.

Joe and I were driving somewhere between timberline and meadows on Saturday. We check out green apple creek sno park and see some potential for wind and terrain. After a quick five minute hike to the snowfield we decided there's enough wind so joe pumps his 10m and takes some tacks. Not real strong wind but like I said there is some potential. Even though it blew N/NW, I bet it would be better on a S wind.
The terrain is not huge but room for a couple of kiters. There are exposed obstacles and a creek to the side. Not the optimal terrain but might be worth checking out if you happen to be riding at meadows and its windy

Just took a trek up to Plains of Abraham with GeneK. That place is snowkite Mecca. If you spent $1000 on a sled, you could be sledding all winter and spring up there, and Indian Rock near Goldendale.

There are tons of cheap sleds for sale, consider it if you want to snow kite!
