I think we are going to head to the Island Park/Jackson area! Where do you actually kite at those spots so I can try to google map our trip out. Where are some spots to stay? Does anybody know the name of a few spots you can park at to kite at these spots? We don't have any snow mo's so it's just going to be a park-and-shred thing. Thanks so much for the help! And thanks for the on-site info and forecasts. Big help!
I'm super stoked to try out these new kites and just kite in general. I've got the itch real bad right now and snowkiting is the shit!
I just picked up all new kites this morning and anyone on here is more than welcome to try them out if we end up kiting at the same spot. 2013 RPMs, Turbines and Rallys in as many sizes as we can fit in the car.
Can't wait, hope to see some of you out there! Let me know if you think you'll be around that area and want to try to hook up, you can PM me here or give me a call on the Slingy phone today.

You probably have already done this trip or are on your way back..but yes, Utah finally has some snow and this is a recent photo of Skyline: Just in case anyone else is wanting to head there...Peter Miller will be hucking cliffs as usual.

We haven't left yet. It's really tough for me to say exactly where to go right now. It's kind of between Skyline Utah or the Island Park Idaho/Jackson Wyoming area right now as those places have the best forecasts and most snow from what I've heard.
But I'm worried about having enough wind. Every forecast I can see just says it's about 5-10mph which is enough but barely.
Lubo we are probably going to be going about as far as we can to get the best snow and wind. I'm not sure how far is too far for you but it's looking like Utah or Wyoming which is probably going to take a long time (about 12 hours I'm guessing) wherever we go. We are leaving from Hood River around noon tomorrow. I told Brave to get in touch with you about it to give you what little details we have planned haha!
Anyway I am really happy you guys have been a big help, thanks so much! I'm feeling the Xmas spirit and I'm lovin it!

We have renters for Christmas at our Park City House but I think we offered it to Dave if they are gone. It's a 2 hour drive to skyyline from there. Arla Funk would know more about Strawberry and it's closer to my house.
Decided to spend the wnter in Padre this year. Yippee!!! Big North wind today! Watched Carol Bolstad out there in knarly surf ripping it up..she got a gash on her face and did another downwinder post.
Skyline web cam:

I think these are the cabins that Kafka rented for MaiTai last year: http://www.skylinemountain.com
I stayed overnight in a motel with Jessica W. Sanchez and it was about $65 for 2 queen beds next to a mexican restaurant (The food was not great but you can't go wrong with the frajitas). If you like liquor, buy it before you get there. No liquor stores and 3/2 beer.
Anyways..by the time you pay for fuel and do your 4 hours of driving...you may think it's worth staying there even if my house is free.

Skyline is a pretty good place to kite but where do you go if there is no wind? There are over 15 places to kite in 5 different mt ranges each with there own micro climate around here in Jackson. During the Nast tour last year in Jackson we kited 6 out of 7 days in 4 different locations. I have been all over the west chasing the wind and lucky for me few spots compare to home.

When it comes to snow kiting..I am no expert at all. Just giving information about the area I know. To me snow kiting has it's novelty but I prefer a warm place. When it comes to Utah or anywhere else, I prefer to just be a hostess to guide people to places to stay, places to have a meal and introduce other wind driven folks to each other. Wherever people decide to go...it's on them. I just want them to have the best experience possible..
AKA..Social Mel. Ha!

Wayne is word yo.
Here in N Rockies we will consistently average 75 - 80% for snowkiting with our out-of-town friends. It's not a guessing game. Its a choice of where we want to kite.
After over a decade of chasing wind and pow, we never stand around waiting for wind. For sure, our addiction to Exxon/Chevron/Mobil is sometimes like a tweeker, but at least we are kiting!

Wayne - how many of the spots do you have to use sleds to get into? My buddy with the sleds augered in yesterday and is out for 4-6 weeks. I can skin in or could take a tow...

Just a couple. There are 4 of us JH kiters and we each have a sled. A tow would be no problem. Sometimes we take them so we can stay to sunset or the wind dies. You don't need a sled.
