| I may try one non-swivel bars next. I do like the swivel bar for when your standing or walking your kite out, the bar doesn't dig into your ribs. I do agree they could make the welds much more bomber. |

| Quote: | Is there any trick to getting the prolimit bar to work with a Dakine
harness? what if you want to keep the spreader bar pad? |
No trick, Phillip. I use a size large Tabu with the large ProLimit spreader
bar. The harness wraps around my ribs plenty so I don't need the pad.
The end of the Prolimit bar is much smaller and the clip makes it real
easy to take on and off.
All those pro riders out there who are sponsored by Dakine and no one
called HQ to tell them that their hook and clips SUCK. Makes you wonder
how much these pros really contribute to the R&D effort at Dakine.
Looks like the customer is responsible for QC.
Shame on you, Dakine!

The hook on the Dakine bar sticks out too far and causes
the bar to want to twist up when your kite is overhead.
That can cause the spreader bar or clips to dig into your
ribs. That's why you need that thick-ass spreader pad.
And then the whole thing is murder to put on and the hook
sticks out even further making it the perfect weapon to
poke a hole in your surfboard.
It's great that Dakine stands behind their gear but it looks
like they need to do some better engineering in the first place.

Is the picture shown of your setup with the Prolimit spreader bar or of the stock DaKine spreader bar ? |

My weld has cracked from both sides, now just 1/3 of weld is holding in middle. I used 6 plastic straps to hopefully hold it if it completely cracks.
I took into Dakine this week, they did not cover, said bars are only covered for first few years and this bar was 5 years old. Went to buy a new one and discovered DaKine only now sells a 10" version, no more 12" pivoting bars. I guess from reading this thread that I probably don't need the pivoting action as much as I thought I did, but it's a nice bar.
I was wondering if there was a simple way I could get this re-welded. DaKine says they don't support fixing the bars. Anyone know a place in Hood River that could do a quick simple fix on this. |

| Find someone that can TIG weld, should be a 5 min. fix. Try looking into metal fab shops or even a MIG welder will do the trick, just won't look as pretty. (MIG welders can be found at just about any autobody shop....just be sure they have Stainless Steel wire on the spool) |

Hmmm, this is why I went with a one piece bar, the swivel bars had too many potential failure points for ho much force they see, IMHO. _________________ Let's go kite. |

i've gone though at least 6 of those hammer head swivel bars since they came out with it. I saw someone had a much more substantial plate welded over the existing on and they said no problem after that.
Is it true those are rated for rider less than 200lbs? I'm 238 and the dakine harnesses don't feel nearly as comfortable as the mystic waist harny. |
