Video Essay of NW Coast-Gorge Tour... Feedback please

Hi Guys,

I hope you like this short movie about kitesurfing the Northern California coast to the gorge. I was sort of thinking about you guys when I made it because I’m on this forum a bunch, and being from Wyoming, we might be the extreme west for a NW kiter. We really wanted to see these places for ourselves. It was a few weeks ago and some of you may remember us cruising through or asking for a little beta.

5 of us were cruising in a minivan and a Subaru camping along the way. I want to do it again and hit the spots we didn’t know about. Most of these places we knew about from word of mouth, NW kiteforum, and web searches. We used Noaa Graphical forecasting and just asked kiters to direct our wind finding. The wind wasn’t entirely traditional, for example we rode 5m east wind at Rooster when I’d hoped to ride west wind all along the Gorge. I was especially excited to see the massive number of kiters at Hood River. I was there once years ago, and seeing that many kites is incredible. All we did in Hood River was eat at Egg Harbor and go to Jones Beach because of the forecast that day.

I’m practicing filming and hope to make some quality snowkite films about our areas in Wyoming. All this experience will be helpful when I find myself balancing on an icy ledge trying to keep the camera steady in sub 0 temps with windchill.

Nice vid! For sure keep it up. Cool to see all the great spots in Oregon and the carpet at Sherman Island. The carpet at SI is strange, I remember the first time riding there and not really realizing it was carpet until the first barefoot walk with the kite out to the beach.

Nice edit and voice over. Liked the music as well. The issue I have is that most of the Gorge was missed up East- Hatch, Event Site, Rufus, Roosevelt. Maybe next year.

Right on Will! Nice shots, and your edits kept the mood with the sound track really well! If you were shooting full time and really going after it I think you could compete with anything out there.

Very Mellow, unpretentious. Nice camerawork too. Looks like a long lens on a DSLR. Musta been hard to keep it smooth--but you did. Can't wait to see your snowfilm!
