It should be said, the best part of CC is the fact you are near a big city with great restuarants, decent nightlife, STARBUCKS, great mexi and almost non stop wind in season. If the drought is on the wind will never stop.. SPI is far more one dimensional.
CC sucks for waves, those SPI ones are incredible, oyster beds pollution and the fact the rednecks have been dumping everything and anything into the Laguna Madre for 100 years. Not to mention they left a mile of wood pilings in when the the new bridge was built. Its pretty much eberything you hate about texas. They shut down every after school program in the city because a student wanted an LGBT meeting to increase understanding. Its basically 1950 there.
BTW Wildcat was site of a two teenage girls shot down by a redneck earlier this year for being gay.

Sooo. CC and Wild Cat. Lurk, the redneck thing is very apparent. The Pavillion was nice, but the topic of discussion was deep fried pie, not in depth educated points of view of any topic of merit. Seriously... My opinions are so strong and being a female, doesn't go over so well in this part of the country. I'm just keeping it quiet, kiting and pretending to be a tad helpless, which is lame but throws less waves in the pond. I have to admit that I do like being called...Ma'am.

Made it to SPI a couple of days ago. Busy unpacking and getting settled so haven't yet but looks like 80 degrees and 20 mph tomorrow. Probably won't even need a wetsuit!
Melokitegirl: when are you guys arriving?

Holly Beach was great yesterday, 18-25mph winds and the tide was way out which means super flat water sweetness !!! Hopefully today will work too !!!!

I'm assuming with the wildlife preserve that padre is also the better place to kayak? Need to make sure the wife has activities when we come down in a couple months...

Ha yeah and never go on anybody's property without permission. Last time I was there a guy shot, execution style, 4 kids who he caught stealing twinkies out of his mobile home. He was on the news that night warning everyone he would do it again.
Just adds local color with the deep fried pie.

I have to be in San Antonio in early Mar. & am deciding on whether SPI or CC for a week before (late Feb). Some info I've seen says Feb is the worst month for wind there? Just wondering if that timing would be btter for wind at either location. Obviously CC is closer to San Antonio so convenience would be nice but wind is the most important. Also - how much wet suit in late Feb/early Mar would I need? Thanks in advance....also best place(cheapest w/o being a sh*thole) to get a room in either? - travelling solo.

Two words...spring break. Book your room now. You will need thicker wetsuits for the ocean and thinner ones for the bay. All kites. Call the kite shops and they may let you ship your kites/wetsuits there. SPI Kiteboarding & Air Padre.
Today is PNW weather...cold & rainy.

february is windy
spring break is the 2nd and 3rd week of march (it is the whole month, but the first and last weeks are chill)
things are warming up by early - mid february, but cold fronts are still on tap until end of march and a full suit is still frequently needed that time of year. (you can just as easily get a hot week and not need a suit at all)
CC and SPI have the same wind, the kite-surf conditions differ, and the amount of access / driving / and open space / beach feel differ.
ride SPI

Downstream,
those pics looks like they are taken from a boat. Are they? How far offshore are you? How often do the conditions set up like that? looks like a bit of fun.
never been to spi or cc. mostly interested in waves and thats generally not on the menu as I understand it....

I was out that day - it was slightly offshore north wind 6m and breaking pretty far out - guessing 1/4 mile. When it blows from the north (goofy), its usually stronger, colder and the waves usually get big/clean around 1/2 day after it starts to blow. On the south days (regular - my favorite) it often takes 2 days for the waves to build. A bonus on the south days is the jetty - cleans them up and reduces the current.
This fall (late Oct - late Nov) we got about 15 the days on the coast. What my friends do is watch the forecast for a 4/5 day south wind and shoot down there - works great.

Whats up. I was carrying a gopro on a stick. Not really a great strategy in the surf. That's big for here, (about head and a half) but it does get that way fairly often. S swell is rarely that big, usually shoulder to head. Tough to say how often, you can get a week straight of kickass surf or go two weeks + with knee to waist (which is still fun for hucking air) we ride a lot waves nov - may (and sometimes some good days in oct too)
