PostSat Sep 29, 12 6:05 pm    Car rental in Maui ? Reply with quote

Going for month of November.
Thought I had a rental with Franks, but apparently not.
No Ka Oi - Maui car rental only has small sedans. No good for surfboards.
Anyone have advice ? Need a small car or van to fit kite surfboards and 3 people.$175 a week would be nice.

We had a bad experience with Pablo. His cars are cheap but they are shitty. They barely run and are disgusting. He charged us on our last trip for a window latch being broken that was that way when we got the car. I wont rent from him again.

Stormrider was renting his van but it was cheaper to rent from Als west maui vans. I was going to rent from him but I was surprised at how much he wanted for his van for a fellow NW kiter!!!!

I won't go back to Al's, the last car I got from them was shabby...then on the second day of the trip it got key'd to hell...like every panel. I never saw but I suspect it was one of the wonderful vagrant campers at kite beach. When I returned it, the guys at Al's acted like "you musta really pissed someone off!"
(yeah by being white with a rental car) They came after me for $1300...over the course of dealing with them, one of their agents let it slip that it happens ALL THE TIME. Probably a nice little racket between them and the body shop.

Aloha! Very Happy

Manaloha - Sergio is super nice. Based in Haiku.

Al's has consistently sketchy reviews lately.

I went to Maui last Aug and again in Jan this year . I met great people on the beach , one of them Tim Diehl Cool . He's a kiter and works for a rental company . I called him . I arrived at the airport and all paperwork was done picked up the keys and off I went , others took a while , so I felt special .
Do I know him so well as to say call him , no , but the service was so nice I had to mention it and recommend him. Avis / Budget . Had a Nitro and all my gear fit easy and I could leave it in there . Just add fresh ice to the cooler daily from the market near Kite beach . I had it for 30 days and the price was great . New vehicle no problems .
Get hold of Rick from Action Sports Maui he could hook you up , they are friends . It was just great to have the convenience at the airport , waiting and ready to go .

Try these guys they have nice pick-ups and cargo vans for rent. I always see one of them at kite beach. Newer models in good shape. Bad news is you will look like a tourist for sure.

http://surfrentstrucks.com/pick-up-trucks/

Also: Get a couple of Dakine Baha straps and put boards on roof in bags. This allow you to get a smaller vehicle. Only bring one kite per guy to beach.

Rented many times from Kalii at Maui Car rental 800-567-4659 aka : No Ka Oi Motors great service every time. They have a 2011 Scion XB that is HUGE and rental rate was reasonable.

Much aloha, e

This was not slanderous. Dont deserve the mojo! Really! It was a fact! Great bro deal for a fellow firefighters family. I knew your family and got no love. Called you guys first and it was 100 bucks more for the week than my other two options. Truth hurts. Just because we put the cash together to go to Maui does not mean we want to burn all
Out extra cash on car rental when we use it minimally. No traveling around the island. South shore to north shore and back. Hope it works out for all. I am sure it is a great deal and all should use Ur services. Bash Pavel all you want on here. All depends on what people need for a rental;-)!!

Thanks for putting your ride up for rental. Works for most! We Will be back in feb again a d again, maybe you can prove me wrong with your rates. Most times we dont even need a rental we just try to infuse a little into the local economy Happy kiting!!

For the record Pavel has been great to us over the last few years. We don't need or want the convertible mustang or jeep on the island. Can't recall did the ac work or the radio on the van??

1. Stormrider - could not find your contact info. some old threads here on NWKITE
were deleted and could not Google you.

2. I ended up getting a 2001 Hyundai Elantra wagon from Sergio at Manaloha Rent a
car for $500 plus $120 taxes for a total of $620 for 30 days ($20.66) per day.
Sergio leaves the car outside in Airport parking so it seems like easy pickup.
Fingers crossed it all works out...

Thanks everyone for your ideas.
