It's not about my neck of the woods. When it comes to kiting issues we all live in the same forest. Please let me respectfully respond to a few points:
@jperry
I admire your heart and soul in the sport. I have the same fire. The issue I have with your response is terms like risk and reward for [u]us.........put [u]ourselves in harms way....downwind by obstacles you need to know the risk is higher....
We have all put ourselves in harms way to achieve a goal. We must however not put others in harms way. The downwind kiter should know his obstacles upwind yes but it is not typical, advisable or within standard kiting practices to have two kiters riding that close and also while both are very distracted by filming or being filmed. Also, the book I am familiar with states that if you do a kiteloop it is your responsibility to make sure your downwind is clear.
@sella. My neck of the woods doesn't sound so dangerous after reading NWkite. You guys are always having issues with Meth heads, Vietnam schlong, tweakers, event site thefts, windsurfer vs kiter death matches.... if I were u I would come to Florida for less danger....
@jonmalmberg. Yes I like turtles. Do you like Redwoods? That's a slider kicker playground right? Pretty crowded area I would assume.
I'm not trying to start fights but I will defend personal jabs in all fun off course. It's a forum these are my thoughts as you have yours. We are all taught to keep a distance. There was no use of the slider park features. Just suggesting that maybe another area would be more suited. I have seen more bans over less of an issue so maybe I'm a little sensitive to it. It is a very cool video despite my insight. From my iPhone so forgive typos. _________________ __________________________

No worries on this end, just don't be so quick to pontificate about something and someplace that you obviously have zero knowledge about. Our features are well downwind of the normal flow of kite traffic, are not very crowded, and ridden by Perry all the time.
Also in the words of The Dude... "You are obviously not a golfer"... Or, the "turtles" comment would have gotten more of a laugh out of you as a Florida based kiter. Redwoods are in Northern California, we have fir trees around here.

Krazed - this section of the river is on the backside of the famous Hood River Sandbar. People that kite in that area are either pros or high level kiters. They generally all know each other. There are no endangered newbs in this area. 99% of the kiters that come to Hood River start their kiting adventure about a quarter mile upwind of this spot. The people good enough to kite this area generally have plenty of room to develop their insane tricks.
I have kited Florida once. It is a beautiful spot. Wide open - super steady wind. It is the only place I have seen another kiter riding on the shoulders of another kiter. You cant get much closer to an other kiter than that. I guess the steady wind and smooth butter water allows for insane tricks like that.................. |

Lol
Sorry didn't get that one for sure. Thought you were referring to being a tree hugger type (not that there is anything wrong with that....)
I Got a lot of kiting days under my belt and alot of skydives. Ii aint that green. I have seen too many kite wraps as well as the outcome. Thanks for understanding my point wether we agree or disagree.
Edit:
@blaze I wouldn't have a care if the shoulder riding Floridians were doing so in an isolated area. If they were doing that in another area with other kiters around, butter flat or not, I would chastise them as well. I get the whole "we are Pro riders" deal. But its that complacency that makes us forget that the same rules apply to the expereinced kiter as to the newb. The "experienced" riders in that area are expecting other riders to be hitting those sliders and charging it hard. Film crews from what i have seen so far have always been from standing on shore or in shallow water as a non-kiter or from the go-pro of the rider themselve. _________________ __________________________
