I buy the 2012 Rally for its wonderful turning speed in the waves, more upwind does me no good on a surfboard that rockets upwind... I bet the drift is affected as well.

The fact that the 2013 goes upwind better, means I get to spend more time surfing the wave and less time grinding back upwind. And the fact that it drifts better, means I can spend more time surfing the wave, using the power of the wave instead of getting dragged around by my kite, with one hand on the bar, kite drifting smoothly, not having to constantly micro-manage and steer the kite.

And the fact that the kite has unreal hangtime, makes for much softer strapless landings, which will make my surfboard last a lot longer.

I've been watching this post for a while and was just a lurker but finally decided to post. OK, I may be an old gommer @ over 60 YO but my son and I had a full quiver of Fuels in 2003 before a lot of you guys were even riding. I wanted to support SS for many reasons as a HR local but I rode a Windwing kite and decided they were much better. They didn't have a kite I was happy with on light days on the Coast or sometimes snow kiting so on Boardin' Bobs recommendation we went to the Demo recently at Del Ray to try the RPM and Rally 14's. The Rally seemed much better than the RPM but it still seemed to turn slow and drop into the power window on the wave, reminding me of an old Fuel and power me off the wave. When I went back to a Windwing Rampage II I was so relieved to have a predictable, quick turning kite but I just wish John would make a 14M Rampage .and not just a 12M. John's not a big self promoter but you should contact him, me or BBob and and try a kite or ask him to make Rampage II in a 14M,especially before snow kite season.

I hear you Scott, and your right, for that kind of wave riding the new Rally may be better.

But my style of riding is different. I want to slash that wave up, beat into submission so to speak, ride fast hard and never let the pull of the kite go away. I don't care about using the wave for its power while drifting the kite. I'm downlooping, moving as fast as I can and still stay on the wave.. That's the difference.

No shit? All the more reason he would know... I think the board line needs two versions, one epoxy and the other bamboo veneer for 1 percenters like you.

not a 1 percenter, just a guy who likes to get the best possible performance out of my boards
