windy season in Bahia Salinas is starting from the beginning of November until the end of May. July and August are also good. Especially between mid December and mid April, wind is constantly every day over 20 knots. LEt me know if I can help with info's, bye

How bad is the bug/giant nightmarish spider situation down there? I'm not kidding, I have a pretty bad bug phobia, and my fear of spiders is off the charts... if there was a large spider in my room at 3am, everyone in the resort would know about it... looks like a great place to kite otherwise.

How is the wind around the end of December (Christmas)? What airport do you fly into?

about spiders: no kidding, after a full day under the sun and the wind, kiting many hours, you'll be so tired that you'll sleep like a kid even with a monster spider on your nose Well, Costa Rica is a tropical country so there are creatures around but luckily not spiders in the water, I promise it!
About wind: December is a great month to come. It's still very green after the rainy season, wind is already IN, 15/25 kns and by the en of DEcember is definitely over 20 kns all days! Better you fly into Liberia (LIR), just 1 hour 10 minutes away from the bay (Bahia Salinas). The second option is San Jose, the more important one, but 4.5 hours away. Hope to see you both here

Been to CR 3 times now. Fly to Liberia, rent a car, drive north for 2hrs (LaCruz) and then 20km on the dirt road to Bahia Salinas.
Also check out Cometa Copal (the other kite school there). Some people also get rooms in near by resorts like playa copal, recreo, etc. Bugs are mostly there during wet season. You might get the occasional scorpion in the bathroom or in your booties. Some snakes here and there. The bay is carpeted with stingrays so you need to be careful and shuffle your feet when you come and go especially on low tide.
There is no boat/jetski support, if you are far out and something happens you are pretty much on your own, carry a life vest, knife, make sure lines are new, etc. Most likely you will wash out at one of the resorts further down wind. Avoid the rock formations in between.
Winds are strong and gusty, can be 20knots punching to 35. No waves, mostly chop, except for the area directly behind the reef and then in the protected side of the island in the distance.
Learning there can be a bit frustrating, the distance from the sandbar that gets exposed on low tide, down to the area just before the rocks is pretty short. Small kites also means having to learn quick reflexes and kite control FAST. Things happen quickly.
Don't get me wrong. The place is super cool but be prepared for the above conditions.

Sorry, but where are Vista Guapo or Green Iguana?? In Bahia Salinas there aren't these 2 hotels and this is the only kiteable spot in Costa Rica. The Blue Dream REsort can also offer all inclusive, bye, Nicola
