The "Stakeholder Input Opposed to Cable Park" meeting will be on August 21, 2012, at 5:00pm at the Port Commission Regular Meeting in the Port boardroom at 1000 E Port Marina Dr, Hood River, OR 97031. The speakers at this meeting are all opposed to the cable park and their goal is to convince the Port of Hood River that the cable park should be blocked.

We need a large group of cable park supporters there, to provide as much discomfort to the opposition as possible. We will not be able to speak at this meeting so remember to wear blue!

If you attend you’ll get to witness Brent Foster deliver an oversized portion of bullshit to the Port of Hood River Board of Commissioners with your own eyes and ears. Brent’s strategy is most likely going to be to fear monger the Commissionaires with Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt. He will try to convince them they’re breaking laws and killing salmon, and that the boat basin is so heavily used by other groups already that they'll likely be voted out of office if the approve the cable park.

It’s important that many people view this with their own eyes as he needs to be held accountable for his actions in our community. He’s raised many frivolous lawsuits against the office building and hotel, and for the sake of our community, he needs to be exposed.

The following a speaker list for this meeting:

* Brent Foster, Friends of the Waterfront
* Heather Staten
* Steve Stampfli, Hood River Watershed Group, Neutral
* Bart Vervloet
* Brett VandenHeuvel, Columbia Riverkeeper
* Leighton Hazlehurts, Friends of the Waterfront

This is just one meeting in a series of meetings. More information about it can be found on the Port of Hood River's "Evaluation Process for Proposed Nichols Basin Cable Park" website: http://portofhoodriver.com/waterfront/CP.php

I like how there's 240+ members while FoHRWF have 81, i only bring this up because Scooter seems so insistent that the cable park will be used by very very very very few people. Calendar marked and wearing blue on the 21st. Cable park would've been great during that wind dry spell last weekend.

Friends, Scooter and any other hater. Are you really against cleaning up the basin? Take a look Shocked

You don't see the potential and the additional people it would bring to Hood River?

What about the Mom's, Dads, sisters, etc that don't want to wake board, I bet they would still like to SUP or Kayak, your rental business would increase.

Does Naito have a plan for the water quality in the basin?

The cable park looks fun, but I'm not sure I would want to get a face full of the water in there when I wiped out.

As far as I know all the dirt sitting in the lot was extracted from the water and cleaned. Im pretty sure a lot of the pollution in that soil was leftover from the lead based paint they used to scrape off at Nichols back in the day. So they have taken steps to improve the basin even without the guarantee of the cable park. Also the cable park will aid gasoline free aeration to the water, which should also increase quality.

Why is this post at the top of the NWKite forum? Please take your hatefulness and anger elsewhere. This is a kiteboarding forum, not an I-will-throw-a-tantrum-if-I-dont-get-to-ride-a-cable-around-in-a-circle forum. Chill out.

Hilton, there is water flow under the sandbar road and into the boat basin from the Hood River. It's why there is a deep channel when you try walking straight east off the east Event Site jetty to the sandbar.

This is the kind of response I would expect to see from people who haven't been watching the debate play out in the public meetings. I would encourage you to come to the meeting so you can see it with your own eyes, and hear it with your own ears. You really have to become educated on this issue before you can make a judgement as to whether it's for Hood River, and whether you can accuse the proponents from "throwing a tantrum"... BTW, I'll be throwing tantrums off the kicker when this thing gets built... Smile

I would like to ride the cable park on non wind days after mountain biking. I am satisfied that it is on NWkite.

Hey Everyone,

With the meeting coming up next week on the 21st I wanted to give everyone a heads-up on what to expect and provide a little bit of guidance to those attending.

This meeting is a chance for the opposition to present their case. It is a public meeting, so the public can attend. There will be no public comment at this meeting, you can only listen and watch.

A panel consisting mostly of opposition will be given a set amount of time to present their case. Brent will be given 30 minutes, and the rest of the panel 5. Once the presenters are done, the Port Commissioners will ask questions of the Panel with the remaining time.

In order for this process to work and be fair and just, we must respect it and the presenters. Being disruptive will only further the opposition's case, and show you don't respect the Port's authority to deal with this very challenging issue. We all know the cable park would be a huge win for our community, but this is the opposition's turn to state their case and we must be respectful of that.

Thank You!
Forrest Rae

Thanks for adding that Forrest, but the general tone on this forum has been anything but respectful of other viewpoints. Seems like the potential for disruption is great, and I think it will reflect poorly on the pro-cable parkers.

LOL you come on here just to post that you believe there will be disruption and that it will reflect poorly on the pro cable park crowd?
Unless you guys stage a disruption similar to your "people actually use the basin" free rental days/ photo shoot I assure you no one is going to be disrupting your little meeting.

HAHAHAHA!!!!!

Post belongs here. There have been many posts over the years related to crosstraining opportunities and this is another. Much better than debating energy policy.....

How did it go by the way?
