Not something you like to watch before heading out to the coast haha
I can't believe those people are sitting in a little zodiac watching the sharks.
you could not pay me enough to experience that firsthand.

for those who worry about such things there is an easy test for sharks.

stick your finger in the water

taste it

taste salty?

then there are sharks.

What really sets apart this video is the stunning detail and closeness of the footage - Made me think how it might feel to actually have a shark that close.

I think a lot of people that spend a lot of time in the ocean get desensitized to the notion that sharks are in the water with them, but also have a curiosity about them in ways that are hard to explain. This video does some of the explaining, I think.

The board leash thing doesn't have anything to do with it.

Pretty clear that an animal that can do that is not going to care whether you're riding, bodydragging, sitting on a surfboard, whatever.

It's the fastest thing in town, it's the top of the food chain, if it wants to get you it's going to get you.

I disagree. When fishing for sharks you need to look like shark food. The edge of a board slicing on top of the surface doesn't look tasty. If you want to get attacked, you need to surf, preferably with a short board and spend long periods floating around in a deep line up. Body dragging up wind for your board emmulates a retarded seal which is a shark delicacy. Thumb's Up

I have three points to respond to this.

1) you know what looks good to a shark? Esp a hungry one? I think sharks look a stuff in the ocean like Bill Clinton used to look at interns.... "Sure why not? I'd hit that."

2) Even if it doesn't look good, where does your sweat (and for some folks, pee) go exactly? Into your stillsuit, to be recycled for drinking. No it goes down your leg, and the sharks have incredibly good sniffers.

3) Do you really need to engage in this sort of logical contortions to have fun? The point is to forget your troubles. If you're thinking "that's the ticket, shark has no interest in me now" when you're riding .... you're sort of missing the point of the whole endeveaour, IMHO.

So what are you saying exactly? That you'd happily kite in that spot, so long as you had a leash and never fell.

Go for it. I'll buy the plane ticket. (not sure how refunds would work here, so I'll just buy you a one way, and then buy the return ticket as needed).

I think that is a very hot spot for shark attacks, but I suppose you might be a bit safer riding than dragging.

Would of worn my gloves but used them to clean a sturgeon...

yeah I guess I don't really know if they smelled you or not ... but I'd guess you had a smell.

personally, I don't look at those vids and think "I'll be ok in the water with those guys so long as I do this or that"

I just think "lucky for us the OR version of those critters seem to be a bit lazy by comparison"
