The forecast is looking pretty fair for this weekend so we're thinking of a Stevie to Rosham event practice run or two for the Blowout. Haven't figured out logistics of vehicles yet but if we go on Sunday we have to bring our RV and trailer back from HR so that can get a quite a few people back to Stevenson.

This will be a run without boat support so bring your flip flops and be ready to swim and hike if you go down.

We'll look at leaving Stevenson between 1 and 3 Saturday and Sunday. If we can wrap up our work early on Friday we might be able to go by 3 or 4. Absolute latest leave time on Friday would be 4:30 but that is kind of pushing it. We've had to swim a few times leaving that late in the day.

Anyone who wants to go with us post on here so we can start to figure out logistics. Depending on which day we go it will be myself, Carol, Grom, Rachel, Nicole, Sarah, Shannon and Christian.

Looks like today is out. Raining in Stevenson and still a lot of work to do. Hoping to make the run on Saturday. Will post up here between 10 and 11 Saturday morning with our plans.

Yeah, looks like Sunday for the run. Maybe leave around 1 or 2. We'll figure out car drops and such in the morning.

man, that is tuff. mtb or blow out?

I guess the blowout would be a good first time on the water after a year of just doing something else.

would be nice to see the core gang

Looks good for today!

thinking of leaving at two. Our rv and trailer are at the spit. We have room for about ten more people and all of their gear. Random, last minute join ups are welcome!

We will get down to the launch in stevenson around one.

I got to Stevenson just as everyone left. I pumped up my 12 meter kite and got in a good hour at Stevenson when the wind just shut off. Most of us struggled to get back to the landing. I hope everyone on the downwinder kept their wind for the trip!

We finally left Stevenson somewhere around 2:30 +/-. Perfect on a 9.5 from Stevenson to just past Home Valley. Needed a 6 for a few miles around Wind Mountain. Needed a 14 about a mile above the Hatch. Finished up the run with the 9.5 being just a hair under-powered but not bad.

Grom and the Best team guys rode twin tips and played in the flat water along the way and cut behind the islands. 7 of us were riding strapless surfboards and found some decent swell along the way to play in.

12 of us left Stevie together and 9 made it all the way. We got a little strung out around the narrows then it went like this: 7 made it in to the spit with a bit of work to get past the hatch and limp through the home stretch. Next three behind that hit a dead spot near the hatch and had to bail out. I held back when the wind backed down to help Nicole get a relaunch and a board retrieval a mile or so above the hatch (during which my kite fell out of the sky). Once we got going again a small front had pushed in and we had enough to make it past the hatch and all the way to the spit without any trouble.

Overall a pretty typical Stevie to HR 75% success rate down winder. A few years back Carol and I tried it 5 times and only made it all the way three times without having to swim and hitch hike.
