Looks like Kalama should be good tomorrow (Wed. Aug 1st).
Forecast:
"Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 74. North northwest wind 5 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph. "
Outgoing tide from 4pm well into the evening.
Anyone interested |

So I went by Thursday around noon and solid white caps everywhere. I went to the beach but, not much beach there? High Tide? Also there were fishermen everywhere!!
There was a fishing pole every 10 yards up and down the beach. Even little boats just off shore. I couldn't see anywhere to launch? Near the grass it seems very rocky with logs and debris all over and again not much beach at all. Seems like the only safe way down is the stairs to the rocks. It was really windy (for Kalama) and no one out? In the 80's we used to windsurf here but it was much more open and natural then... |

i haven't ridden there in about 3 seasons. We used to rig in the grass behind the beach, throw 'em up, go out between the poles. We got a few 'warnings' from fisherman that could've been taken as hostile or just 'good lookn out', so safety in numbers. There were some pretty good lookin' kalama girls there when we were rollin' it up too, was fun. It definitely seems like every place we have to launch/land has a yin to the yang. |

I launch from the grass and walk down the stairs. Note the port has stated that you must use the stairs and not the hillside or they will ban kiteboarding at the park. There are usually less fishermen later in the afternoon.
On a side note, Kalama should be going off today, if people don't want to drive far for wind. |

Kited saturday on the river just past the rv park. 100 ft dirt road right to the edge of the beach. 25 feet to the water. Only 2 families on the beach and 100 yards of open sandy beach. Plenty of room to self launch and first try in boots. Loved them. 1 hour on a 14 and then 2 hours on a 10. Overpowered all 3 hours. What is the best way to bail out while wearing boots when you accidently throw an out of control mega loop? Otherwise a fun spot to ride on a north wind day! |

Black Kite? You went in just before we pumped up on the Oregon side. I cruised up to the trailer park then down to Sand Island docks and back. Great wind. Went for an hour this morning before work and lost my board. Current was rippin'. fisherman called two hours later said he found my board. Fishermen here generally like seeing us out there. |

Three of us kited Kalama on 9 and 11m from 3:30 to 7:00 on Saturday. It was quite nice. I find the water quality (not choppy) to be pretty good even when the wind allows for medium sized kites. We stopped by Woodland on the way up but decided to take advantage of the grass in Kalama.
I heard some people kited there today (Sunday) as well? |

And outgoing tide (high tide going to to low tide) works much better than an incoming tide - it gives a nice boost to relative wind speed. |

Where do you launch from on the Oregon side? Seems like there would be a wind shadow? |
