What's the OT rules again?

If you're telling people "watch out for vaccines" or "some weird drilling thing high up in MO will turn the massive Columbia into a cesspool" then you're allowed to blather on and on and on...

But if you're one of the nicest guys on the forum who generally comes up with some super helpful advice, and you want to post once every 3 or 4 months about some vaguely right-leaning political viewpoint.... YOU'VE GOT TO SHUT THAT DOWN.

Thanks for clearing it up guys. Got it now.

im saying, isn't there a more polite solution to Hein wanting to post political stuff occasionally than just locking his posts.

it's pretty f*n rude to Hein, in my opinion. There are other posts that don't have much to do with kiting and are allowed to go on and on and on.

But it seems Hein's political views are a bit too rightward, so his off-topic stuff gets snapped on hard and fast.

Who gives more useful free advice than Hein. Basically nobody. Can't you create some better strategy than just locking his political posts down? Create an "off-topic" section, or heck, a "Hein's corner" section.

Fn rude way to treat one of the better posters in the history of NWKite, IMHO.

Some of the message boards I frequent solve the problem by creating a "Politics and/or Religion" section. There is a big subheading under that part of the forum saying something like - "Do not enter if easily offended! Heated political or religious discussions may ensue. Only lightly moderated - be warned!" Then all postings that turn political or religious get moved to that part of the forum - just like when we move industry stuff to that section if it gets posted on the regular forum. This way people can voice their opinions on those subjects if the feel so moved and they wont get locked down. It generally is only a small group of people that will use that part of the forum - but it is a nice outlet for some people that are into that kind of discussion.

That's a good idea! Create an OT forum just like the Industry and Lost & Found tabs. That would be a good place to dump strange topics without distracting the main forum.

PJC listen to Blowhard. No rules. Hein can do what he wants. It's a kite forum. Everyone has fun with it but expect politics to ruffle feathers. If you don't like locked threads....start another one....nobody gives a shit and anybody who takes anything non-kite related seriously on a kite forum is stressing over nothing.

My favorites of Hein is when he goes anti-union. Those are always fun but tis the season so I would like more kite porn postings. Thank God for Stringy's posting but if a rule was ever to be imposed, besides no brand-vs-brand, I vote for every posting May - September MUST include a picture or link of some kite related activity.

am I the only one who sees that it's not "no rules". There are unwritten rules.

OT posts can veer into seriously "looney left" territory and they blather on and on and rarely get locked, or get locked only after many, many posts.

(and I say this as a guy that, God help me, knocked on people's doors trying to unelect Bush Rolling Eyes )

but Hein type OT posts get locked down.

all I'm saying, how can Hein not take offense at that? and as a result, post less of his useful kiting stuff.

so yeah, admin takes 10 minutes to make an OT section. Or even a "Hein time" section.

All I'm saying.

Yep, I'm in favor of creating an OT section, but can it be called Hein's corner, so we can read it eat peanuts and throw the shells on the ground? (aka Wanker's Corner down on 205 and Stafford road).

And pjc, just to make it more even based and so Hein doesn't feel picked upon. . .

Slightshot stuffs is way better than any other brand out there. Razz

I appreciate you folks taking the time to read what I post from time to time. Some of the replies make me wonder why I would want to ruffle feathers like that. Please forgive me if I have offended you. Have fun, -Hein

Hein,

I remember meeting you many years ago, pre-kiteboarding. My family living in my popup and yours in an RV. Those were the days! Our kids played and you were friendly and fun to hang out with.
Times have changed we are tea baggers now and have left pole dancing behind, but we both moved to Oregon from our previous locations to enjoy this high wind.
I really appreciate your use of freedom of speech, though I don't necessarily agree, on the forum.
Your political posts cause me to reevaluate my beliefs and examine what I really think about a topic/issue.

For the record I want you to know that having you as my friend is my good luck. Your knowledge of weather, boards, good places to kite and your complete lack of ego is very cool.

You are a highly intelligent person who contributes to our community and nation and probably the best kiter I've ever had the pleasure of knowing.

Thanks,
ron Very Happy

Yeah, right, and the moon is made of cheese and Santa Claus is going to double my 401K in the next 5 years. Rolling Eyes

Everyone who reads here sees there is clear editorial bias over which political threads get shut down and which ones ramble on and on and on.

It's your forum - it's only a suggestion.

I guess all those other "hobby specific" forums that have an OT section must be morons to set it up that way.
