Just wondering if I'll be joined by any kiters this afternoon, since I don't belong self launching/landing yet.

If anyone is interested in carpooling, I'm leaving PDX around 2:30-3:00pm.

I know my friend JIm is heading out at 1-2 pm. Nate mentioned in the other thread that he would be out there today. Considering the forecast for Jones - there should be several kiters out there. You will not be the only kiter.

I know a couple of friends of mine will be there today, unless the wind really goes off, then they might go over to Willow Grove, but I'm sure they will go to Jones first to see what the wind is like. You should be able to meet up with them. If not, I'm sure someone will be there. Its wise to wait until you feel really confident in your kite control before you attempt self-launching. Remember though, if you need to "self-land", you can always just use your primary release, and walk up the safety line, secure your kite, then wrap up your lines. Good practice too! Have a great session!

Willow Grove? Where's that? What's it work on? What's the launch like?

Never been there personally, but things I hear about Willow Grove (Just west of Longview)...

Watch out for needles (free diseases with the added bonus of kite punctures)
Watch out for crazies.
Don't get knocked off your board (strong current).

Blows mellower then Jones when Jones is going off really strong.

just outside of Longview Washington. look up Willow Grove, Cowlitz, WA on google maps. on the south side you'll see a boat launch. it pretty much goes to the last oval paved area (a little passed). You'll probably have fishermen lined up, but typically lighter winds than Jones. Decent sand beach, but typically a bunch of driftwood. Nate might be able to give you a better view of it.

Willow Grove is a park in Longview. I kited their about 3-4 weeks ago when Jones was blowing to hard for my beginner skills, nice sandy beach you can drive on. I was told by Leon that it is usually about 7-10 mph lighter than what Jones is blowing.

Basically you take that right turn before getting on the Longview bridge and follow the signs
