The quickest petition ever. Just takes a few seconds.
http://www.change.org/petitions/houston-we-have-a-problem
Please consider signing this petition to save Bondurant, Wy from over 100 gas wells in our very snowkite spot. A Houston, Tx company has the right to drill on the National Forest Service lands at Bondurant where we snowkite due to some technicality granfathered in from over 50 years ago. Now they're proposing to drill the gas wells there and pump fracking fluid into the earth.
Not only will it harshly scar the snowkite terrain, but it is unfortunately high up in the watershed. The Frack infested water can travel down the Hoback River, to the Snake River and ultimately pour into the ocean via the Columbia River. This will be draining through 5 of my waterkite spots as well. I personally also kayak and river surf all the waters from this drainage. I will be super fracked!
The Jackson Hole Kiters will owe you big and come to your rescue one day if necessary!
Thanks in advance - Will Taggart Last edited by knewschool on Thu Jun 07, 12 8:34 am; edited 1 time in total |

Signed and shared! That's a little close to Yellowstone and the Tetons for my liking...
Good luck in preventing this! |

Haven't been able to shred bondurant yet... but have always wanted to! And, we have enough pollution in the Columbia already.. farm runoff, Hanford, etc and the new coal trains, No need to add gas well fluid to the mix. _________________ Liquid Force Kiteboarding in the Pacific Northwest.
Demo's always available to those on this forum.. PM me to schedule. |

Signed. Good luck Will.
I am a fan of natural gas usage and welcome a larger distribution grid since the US is sitting on large reserves but there is NO need to touch pristine areas. |

it is kind of a double edged sword. We want to stop drilling for the least expensive source of available oil, but, it is exactly what we demand to support our choices such as putting an immense amount of unnecessary (because it is purely recreational) miles on the road looking for the next session.
Condemning the supplier of the very product we demand at the least expensive price so we can kite seems a bit twisted. If you want to reduce drilling then reduce demand. Try reducing or eliminating completely unnecessary activities like driving all over to find wind. Or is that different?
I cant sign a petition in good conscience, unless I am willing to walk the talk. I am not willing to change my life style accordingly. Where I choose to kite is dictated by 1. wind conditions 2.time available and 3. the cost (gas) of travel. If you are in HR and are deciding whether to go Rufus or Roosevelt, where does how much fossil fuel you will burn weigh into your decision except as a function of cost? I am willing to bet that the majority of people signing the petition dont put impact on the environment any higher on the list than I do.
I know my opinion will not be too popular, but, actions speak louder than self-congratulatory words. Last edited by SalmonSlayer on Sat Jun 09, 12 12:34 pm; edited 1 time in total |

SalmonSlayer yes once again you're making an argument that is a stretch and fails to comprehend the bigger picture. Yes, fossil fuels are used to get to our kiting spots so how dare we consciously object to somebody drilling for gas in a pristine natural setting....where we just happen to kite. Okay, consider our dirty little carbon footprints busted but your "double edged" sword is like comparing a butter knife to a machete.
By your standards any company should be able to drill anywhere they want because we use their product so we have no right to complain. I also eat salmon...so I should be able to fish anywhere and anytime I want and nobody should care because...well...they eat salmon too. Are you cool with that?
Kiters won't be the only group petitioning against gas drilling in pristine natural areas and I bet those groups all drive cars around looking for trees to hug. The hypocritical bastards!!! |
