Do you understand how complex the medical field is. A malpractice suit is typically one doctor with one patient. The pharmaceutical companies try to make one thing that will cover everyone. Peoples reaction to medications very greatly. I have a friend that vicoden knocks out, but another one it seems like he did a ton of speed, bouncing off the walls. Other medications work different for different people and trying to make one that is 100% that works for 100% of people is the goal, but when you feed stimulants to ADHD people it calms them, where people without it bounce off the walls how can you make something that works the same for every single person. Yes there are tragities, yes the government screws up, yes the pharm's screw up, but saving people is the goal.

H1N1 vaccine was rushed because the potential for what H1N1 could do, and there were some bad results.

The feeling I am getting from this thread is that we should just stop vaccines. Welcome back measles, mumps, small pox...

Anyways just my 2 cents.

I am for vaccines, but not for false math, 0.000001% really. Sounds like NASA all over again. Do we have to call Richard Feynman from the dead to do the math like he did then? There are no zero failure rates in any science field.

All i am saying is we don't know everything and we have to be honest with humanity. Medically and socially.

Blind faith is just that.

And yes, modern medicine is a real asset to humanity. I would get my kids vaccinated, if i had any. But i wouldn't want them lied to.....

The risk for serious reaction is smaller than 0.0001%. The fatality rate is much lower than the serious reaction rate - and hard to figure out exactly what is going on in these extremely rare events.

The risk of dying in a commercial plane crash is around 1 in 10 million, for a citizen of the US. Certainly much higher for Nak, who flies for a living.

people who do not vaccinate their children. Need to be prosecuted if their children become seriously ill or cause someone else to become seriously ill. It is just like the prayer instead of medicine cases. It is up to you but if you chose wrong you should be held responsible

The Health Ministry has set up a committee to probe the cause of deaths.

Meanwhile, the entire batch of vaccines that might have poisoned the children has been recalled and samples of the vials have been sent for testing.

In addition, the head of the immunization program in Mohanlalganj, Dr K.P. Upadhya, and four nurses who administered the shots have been suspended pending investigation.

"Prima facie it seems that the incident occurred due to spurious vaccine. This is a very serious incident. We will take appropriate action. Compensation of Rs 50,000 will be given to the families," said Anil Sagar.

My original post was about drug companies not vaccinations. Mostly how the act around the world. 600 townspeople attacked the med pros here in india in 2010 because of bad vaccines. That was original and current point.

America is turning toward 3rd world communities in a 1st world company owned states. they will do it to us soon enough. There should be no borders in matters like this.

Merck is currently donating large amounts of the drug Ivermectin to countries that cannot afford it. Ivermectin is a drug designed by Merck and is amazingly effective at treating onchocerciasis , or river blindness. 18 million people in the world suffer from it, and it is the worlds second leading cause of blindness.

Pharm companies are capitalistic entities, after all, but regardless of their motives -- this is hugely positive for the world.

make it sticky and lock it down? then kill it in a few more weeks when the "epidemic" burns out... (hopefully it gets firewalled by enough nice people who got stuck, you don't need 100% participation to get "herd immunity", the idea is immunize enough people and everyone is protected, esp infants too young to get stuck, or folks too poor and uninsured to pay for it )

The Huffington Post recently learned that pharmaceutical industry insiders are expecting the health care reform legislation agreed to between the White House and Senate Democrats to result in a surge of new profits for drug companies -- more than $137 billion, according to one estimate.

But, are these profits deserved? Over the past several years, the Justice Department has clashed with a number of pharmaceutical companies over what it says were a host of illegal schemes to boost profits. As a result, huge drug companies have paid out billions in fines and settlements.

These charges include paying kickbacks to health care providers, illegal pricing and off-label marketing (which is a euphemism for pushing drugs on patients who don't need them). Bloomberg reported this week that the practice of off-label marketing -- where drug companies promote a drug for uses other than those approved by the FDA -- is widespread:

"Marketing departments of many drug companies don't respect any boundaries of professionalism or the law," says Jerry Avorn, a professor at Harvard Medical School in Boston and author of "Powerful Medicines: The Benefits, Risks, and Costs of Prescription Drugs" (Random House, 2004). "The Pfizer and Lilly cases involved the illegal promotion of drugs that have been shown to cause substantial harm and death to patients."

With the massive penalties and settlements that drug companies have paid out in the name of profits, we took a look at some of the biggest cases of the last several years. Check them out below, and vote for the worst offender.

Well that's my end to this. Once again, only got into this because pjc discredited knowledge when inept mentioned he thought it was possible that there were known unsafe drugs sold to countries "abroad". I wrote what i did to make sure that when someone states a opinion it cannot just be cast down, especially if it is true. These guys have been able to run wild and it has to stop.

No free marketing for these guys, please. Its not the doctors, its the bosses, the investors. I don't care how much you think docs make, they can't afford these fines, but the investors can and profit.

And as for children, watch the slideshow, these guys don't care.
