Keep your eyes open for falling kites.

We need to make sure an accident doesn't happen and get us banned from launching and landing here.

There are some killer kooks out there ! Shocked

One more 'Like' for Llyod's post. As someone who has a family and likes it when they are willing hang out with me at windy and sometimes desolate beaches - I would urge fellow kiters to refrain from yelling at families and telling them go somewhere else.

Rather, walking up to them and telling them about the risks work well and asking them politely to move out the way when you are about to launch or when someone is trying to land would be the better approach.

Big signs telling people they are going to die if they get anywhere near the kites and yelling and screaming is probably not in the best interest of a long term (Temporary!) 'shared' beach area like the event site.

I've actually seen a kid get clobbered by a windsurfers mast before, yes it was someone that was just starting the sport, but had the sail up, gust came, let go of boom and WACK!!.

Maybe we should ask the people in charge of the Event Site if they would be willing to throw up some stakes with lines between them just to make people aware of it (just for the landing/launching area) until the bar is available.

Remember, you might not know who you yell at, and I'd personally hate it if it ended up being a relative of someone who has a lot of pull with the Event Site management.

Here is a radical plan that will never catch on....

TAKE FUCKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR OWN ACTIONS!!

If your a parent with a small kid... maybe dislodge your head from your arse long enough to see.. hmmm, that might not be a good place to have my little kids in the river.

Oh what is that? there is a family friendly and shallow beach with NO kiters 5 minutes away?

If your a new kiter and you think to yourself... "Hmmm, I really don't know what the hell I'm doing" maybe, just maybe, you should launch land some where else where their is less chance of injury.

But seriously, we do need some signs down there.. here are some suggestions..

If you are a parent with a small kid, maybe you dont know what a 10 meter kite can do. All you know is that kites are fun and you fly them in the park.

I want to thank the guys taking the efforts to educate the tourists....

The wind was flukey on the launch at Event Site this weekend. It would have been well worth it for beginners to wade their kites out to the sandbar......

My wife setup the ability to order t-shirts and/or stickers on-line. For the record, there's absolutely no profit in it... its just the cost of what the company charges to print the stuff:

Black T-Shirt: http://www.zazzle.com/caution_kiteboarder_tomahawk_zone_tees-235707145282843460

White T-Shirt: http://www.zazzle.com/caution_tomahawk_zone_white_shirt-235928802784900007

She made the sign on the back as large as the company would allow. She also said its pretty easy to change stuff if people have suggestions.

To each his own, but, I am not sure this is the best way to portray kiteboarding when promoting safety and beach access are a constant issue.

I agree with you SalmonSlayer, but it would be fun to wear at a kiteboarding event.

Yep, the kid getting whacked is funny from Roadrunner cartoon perspective.

SalmonSlayer, please go back and read through the entire thread. The sign was made in jest as a light-hearted response to the OP. Several people asked if we could make a T-shirt available, one person even suggesting that we do it on-line, so we did. That's all. So I guess now people are going to start bitching about it, so no problem. We took the site down, and will remove all reference of the sign.

Let's get a count of who would be interested. If I can get artwork we will pay a 50 dollar artwork set up fee and shirts will be about 13 bucks or so. How bouts we start selling the shirts as much as we can and donate 1/2 to cgka and 1/2 to Kiteboard for cancer. I think we all know the seriousness of the launch site but lightn up. It is funny!!
Let me know and I will take care of it in the valley and bring them to the tomahawk zone. Blake

I understand it was light-hearted and I think it was funny. I clearly said "to each his own". I just think it could be perceived differently by those that have a say in beach/launch access that are not kiters.

I realize tone can be easily misinterpreted on posts, but, calling that "bitching" and taking down the site is a bit of an over reaction IMHO

Holy shit man! You complain about it, I take it down, now you're complaining about that?? Look, if you didn't think it was a big enough deal that it should have been removed, then why not leave it alone and not make the comment that its "not the best way to portray kiteboarding when promoting safety..." of course it isn't... it was meant in JEST... you're very statement shows that you completely missed that point. But anyways, you got what you wanted, its over and done with. Its ok to poke fun at ourselves once and awhile, but obviously your sense of humor was too limited in this case, so you had to take it seriously, and I've resolved the situation by removing the problem you felt so compelled to comment on. I think your post was an over reaction... the sign was obviously done tongue-in-cheek, but that didn't stop you from getting all serious about it. Jeesh... lighten up...
