My first session of the year was a 14 meter RPM and a trip to the bridge only to find that the White Salmon River bar has replaced my usual swell riding spot.
It's one thing to watch a damn blow up and another to the final results of that much sand coming down the river.
I miss that big wave!!!

well you're sure not gonna get anything "swell" with a 14M RPM up in the air.

Today could be different story.. Wink

So whats the status of the WS bar? Is it showing above water? Can you launch from it?

It's about a foot under water as of today.

Been over to the Bridge a couple of times now in winds from 10-30mph and it's pretty much a flat water spot now, although there is definitely some debris still bobbing around out there, both small and very big.

Today, even though it was light wind there was a standing waver next to the channel market that is still half submerged by the combined currents of the Columbia and White Salmon.

It feels like kiting at lyle without the illegal railroad crossing and eleven miles closer.

my guess is that the white salmon river current was pushing into the columbia without as much accompanying sediment as is typical. The water pushing out probably caused a deeper spot, if not a drop off. Swell was likely a result of this.

i read something about sailing the columbia that talked about this as something to watch out for.

Hardly.. The swell is here!! This year will have the biggest and best swell the Gorge has ever seen..

Mark my words... Wink

Any 4.5 - 7m day will produce swell bigger then the white salmon and the surrounding areas have ever seen! Some spots are going to produce some major conditions, for river swell with very high wind. Be wary of surrounding kiters, line up procedures and that damn green buoy out there.. On high water days like today it will submerge and bury for a few secs and pop back up.. You will lose track of it and you don't want to get caught up with that thing.. Or a least I don't.
