I would look in central oregon or the east (dry'r) end of the gorge...harder to find a job though! |
If its not Bend then I wouldnt bother wither Central or Eastern Oregon!

First day/night on the coast and gotta say it's pretty great. Kited delray beach for a couple hours lit on an 11 and then 7m. Now camping out by cannon beach. Gotta say you guys are blessed with a beautiful place. I think we're spending one more night on the coast and then to either Portland or hood river. Regardless, so far everything has been great.

Gotta say you may nail it out here. Forecast showing northwesterlies for today. Head down to manzanita for some of the most beautiful kiting on the planet or kite there in cannon. Recommend tolovana on the south end of town. Or head back up this way, try going into fort Stevens, shipwreck or area B. The swell should pick up and those places are fun.

No wind today however we checked out escola park and went for a hike. It was gorgeous. Wish I had a SUP with cause I saw some pretty decent lefts and a couple rights.
We headed down to the state park just south of manzanita, think its called nesthalm. We're camping here and just enjoying every bit it has to offer.
So here's the question: Do we pack up and leave for the gorge or stay here tomorrow for the wind? Any thoughts/insight would be appreciated!
And by the way, 2nd day into the trip and I'm already thinking about how to come back here. Loving it so far!

Looking at just the general weather forecasts on the internet it is showing light winds on the coast and pretty strong winds in the gorge. Sevenson has winds forecasted 10-20 mph, Hood river 15-20 with gusts to 30 and Rufus showing 25-35 mph. Not sure how solid the forecast is, but looks like the trend is wind stronger the further east you go in the gorge.

The Gorge should be sunnier, windier, and warmer than the coast on Saturday, especially East of Hood River. It should be warm enough for lots of folks to get their first day of the season on the water. The drive from The Dalles to Maryhill on the Washington side of the river (Hwy 14) is not to be missed. Don't forget to check out the views from Stonehenge (across from Rufus). There should also be camping at Maryhill State Park.
You can take Hwy 30 (instead of I-84) between Portland and Cascade Locks to check out Crown Point and Multnomah Falls on the way.
