PostMon Apr 02, 12 12:42 pm    Renting for a Month in Hood River? Reply with quote

Was interested in coming out to the Hood River this summer to train and compete in the local events "KB4C, RoSham, BOTG"

Whats the best way to go about getting a place for a month in the Hood River?

Thanks, Drew Christianson

Drew pull the trigger and do it for July. Great events, vibe and wind options. You'll probably end up staying for August too. Thumb's Up

Getting a room in HR for just a month in the high season is damn near impossible. However, one of the best kept secrets in the gorge for cheap easy fun affordable housing is the Bingen School Inn. This was originally a dedicated windsurfing hostel but I guess its now a kite surfing hostel. However, it seems like I am the only person who stays there. So there is plenty of room. Bring your own sleeping bag and pillow is my recommendation. Hot showers, full kitchen, gym..... $20 bucks a night. Somewhere between $300-$500 for a month stay.

DRew I'm 54 and was kiting on Maui for a month of Feb. I stayed at the North shore Hostel and It was a great experience . I did get a private room as it was available to do so .
I liked the fact I was meeting others from all over so it was a social experience too . Lots of fun , awesome people .
Just saying
Good luck

What about camping and/or living out of your car/van. Then you can hit the coast for a few days and still have a place to sleep.

There is a descent camground on the klickitat about five minutes up the river. It is clean and simple with flat camping spots. There is another in the west side of the klickitat up on the bill which is cool to as long as you are not pulling a tracheal trailer up the road. I can attest to that:-) You can always just drive up river and there are multiple other spots that have great river access.

Thanks Guys!

Don't really want to camp or live in a car for a month... Even though the winds are pretty epic in the gorge.

Keep the offers and ideas coming

Thanks Everyone

Maybe you should approach your problem from the other direction and tell
us what you are willing to spend for the month of lodging and then we could
give you more accurate responses.

range for a month being:

Sleep in car = $60 in gas money

Sleep in campground = $300 in camp fees

Sleep in hostel = $600 for dorm

Sleep in motel = $2100 for room

Sleep in house = $3000 for house

that's a big range in prices and amenities.....

In Bingen, WA right across from Hood River, there is a Hostel, Bingen School, also mentioned above. Pretty legit and clean, maybe split half your time camping? Not sure what your requirements / lifestyle require.

www.classifieds.gorge.net

Craigslist Portland also has a "Gorge" tab:
http://portland.craigslist.org/grg/

If you would be interested in renting a room in Cascade Locks (20 mins from HR) my buddy has a real nice house with a room avail, let me know if you want in on that. Super nice modern place. Walk to grocery etc.... He would totally rent out the extra room for just 1 month, + or - if need be

Cheers,
RYan

I want to spend around 1,000 and down on a room preferred to be in Hood River. For 1 month.

3,000 sounds a little high for what I'm looking at, more so a studio would do me well. Or a house with open room. I'm a pretty easy going mature young adult. Looking to get out of windless Florida for part of the summer

Ryan that sounds pretty good tell me more!

Thanks Guys!
