My brother-in-law says that the Turbo Diesel 2 is the worst kite slingshot ever made. I'm a beginner, just able to stay upwind sort-a. Is this kite going to be good for me?

Wrong! It was a great kite. It was made for 3 seasons. If it sucked you never would have seen a T2.

I bought 11m and 7m T2s in 2007 when I first learned how to kite, I still have the same kites and never had a need to buy others, they are still in great condition, and I feel no need for a newer fancier kite. They relaunch great and de-power great as well, its a great kite!

The kite you might be thinking of is the 2007 Link. Do a search for some good stories.

only if you crash it with slack lines, but I'm pretty sure any kite will do that.

He was probably talking about the Link it wasn't the greatest kite but the TD's seemed to be well liked by beginners.

I hated the T2. I rode it once and avoided it ever since. Allways find a way to demo before you buy, differant strokes for differant folks.

2:1 bar takes some getting used to, but 14m T2 is amazing in lightwinds.

My 2007 7m T2 is still my go-to kite for nuking high winds. Love it like the day I got it.

Im pretty sure if you kiteboard or are into kiteboarding, you dont need any kind of actually experience to give advice. So most likely I would take anything anybody says with a grain of salt. Link was definitely the kite that didnt do to well, Turbo was the start of kites Slingshot still makes today so naw, its not bad.

I had a T2 7m, flew it in costa rica in nuking winds. Good kite to learn on. However, it does invert if you crash it the wrong way and the wind catches it, what i mean is that the struts will be on the outside. It still flies and you can get to shore, you can also drop it in the water and do some tricks to un-invert it. The pulley bar was great, you sit in the water and without diving the kite sheet in and it will just pull you vertically right up more than any other kite I have tried.

Can anyone comment about the differences between the SS Ralley and the T2? They look sort of the same in the air except for the wingtip points.

Having flown both the T2 14m and the Rally 14m extensively:

14m T2: Bow kite. Slow. If you absolutely must have the lowest bottom end, this is it. Slow. 2:1 bar with lots of bar pressure. Incredibly easy re-launch and self launch. Very stable.

14m Rally: Delta kite. Fast for a 14m. Easy re-launch. Self launch from an anchor good, but not as good as a T2. Fast for a 14m. Easy jumps. Not as stable as a T2 or an RPM. If you let go of the bar it won't stay parked very long at all. You lose a knot or so of low end compared to the T2. No pulleys on bridle. Much lower bar pressure than T2

Overall: If your main goal is to get as much low end as possible, the T2 14m reigns supreme. If you want to give up a knot or so on the bottom end, the Rally is far more fun to ride with due to it's speed and bar pressure.

I assume smaller sizes are similar, but I have no actual experience with smaller Rallys.

I would not hesitate to recommend the T2 for a beginner, unless they had a low arm strength to weight ratio. (Because of the high bar pressure.)

Replaced my T2's with T3's, pretty much the same kites. Great kites to learn on, I still have the 5M and use it at least 10 times a year. Most of the time its the only kite on the water when its big. Bar pressure is a bit much for my 67 year old shoulders now so i had to switch to other kites.

Good on ya fstdude. Inspiring to hear you're still at it. I'm just a wippersnapper but I had to give up my T2's because they pulled so hard I got kiters elbow. Only kite I could go upwind toeside with though.

I think the T2's are a great kite for what they are. My girl still is riding the 7m T2 in the gorge, and I trust that kite to be safe and reliable for her. A couple of my favorite sessions in the gorge was on her (pink, purple, and 'mangenta') T2 LIT out of my mind!

Buy it, great kite.
