I'm looking for a new winter wetsuit. Thinking hooded 6/5/4 or 5/3. Any strong preferences/ recommendations that won't break the bank? The Patagucci looks really nice, but too $$. Other suggestions?

I want to be back in the Columbia in a few weeks! Who's coming with me!!??

I got one of these Hyperflex Flow 5 4 3 suits last year:

One of the fine board shops in HR had a sale it was like $170. Great suit!!

I have the same suit and it's a great deal for the price. Windance and 2nd wind in HR sell them for under $200 i think. It's very warm and super easy to take on and off.
That being said they wont last as long as the other well known brands.
You get what you pay for.....

Yea, I put off a patagucci purchase for years. I finally caved after borrowing a friends once when I forgot my own suit- bought one the next day. One of my best buys.

You'll only climb in and out of that $170 hyper flex flow about 37 times before the seams blow....no liquid seam seal on my version at least. Didn't last 1/2 a season on the south coast.

In a 543 hotline reflex now.....pretty good.....300 or so...

I have a Mystic 653 Venom that keeps me very warm over my hooded hyperflex 543 which is easier to put on but not as well made or as warm as the Mystic. The Mystic is a LT size and is too tight for me and I would sell it for $75. Only wore it a few times.

I probly only get 10 or less sessions a year in it. I only use it for a winter suit. So at that rate if it lasts me 37 sessions I'll feel I got my moneys worth. Lot of variables though... if you should be wearing an xl an yer squeezin into a L or M, you'll be bustin out sooner.

Just sayin

I have more than 50 sessions in mine. Seams are fine but ankles starting to disintergrate. I use mostly in fresh water.

Do you use your suit in salt water exclusively?
Do you rinse with fresh water?
Do you pee in your suit?
Wondering if these would effect the longevity of the suits?

It fit me well except the hood... was uncomfortable as hell. Not going to do too much belly aching on a suit for less than 200. It kept me in the water and performed well while it held. For the habitual coast use I think spending an extra 100 bucks is the way to go. As far as $/session...I think the flow is in the ballpark.....the price point got my attention...

Salt only...(I suspect that is the culprit)...
...always throughly rinsed without fail
...Only when it's over 12 feet Laughing

Just got a 4/3 charger. Only had it on the water once so can't vouch for the number of wears it'll hold up for, but it was plenty warm. I think the way they do the seams helps. Wasn't too big or small, great mobility, fit well, no sag, etc. Almost bought their Storm but opted to go with the charger due to the feel (it was a wash though really as that one fit well too). Plus they are priced well.

Would recommend trying on anything before you buy a wetsuit. Every one fits differently.

Oh and yeah... buy local.

Good information here on post here from some Lake Michigan kiters
(we certainly don't get bigger waves than you all, but our water does get colder)

PostSat Feb 18, 12 5:28 pm    Hyperflex Amp-K 6/5/4 hooded Reply with quote

I wore my Amp-k 6/5/4 (hooded) during a couple low 40 degree sessions this winter, and it was great! I am moving to the bay area and would be willing to let it go cheap if someone is interested. Size medium, 2011, worn twice.... PM
