Not exactly my point, just offering that regulation is not a always bad thing. I also believe deregulation definiately added to the current financial crisis we are in.
Go back to the Reagan/Bush/Clinton era deregulation when the seeds for this current fiasco were planted. |

With all due respect, guys, I was just pointing out who introduced the legislation. I think the OP makes it sound like this was the President's bill. It was not. It was introduced by Rep Bishop and he should get the credit.
He doesn't even get a mention in the US Forrest Service News release:

One has to ponder how a swimming pool can be more destructive to the environment than a mountain bike terrain park. I am not against mountain bike terrain parks but it begs the question: Considered "destructive" by whom? |

I agree. My original post specified unnecessary regulation. However, I would argue that regulation has a net negative effect on and economy and job creation.

Knee jerk reaction much? i dont think you saw any mention of political parties or name calling such as "teabagging".
My comments were purely based on economic policy perspective. Although, I suspected that it was not Obama's Bill as stated in the original post, I did not really care. My hats off to him for signing a good commonsense bill. I find it refreshing that legislation like this can come our of DC regardless of party.
Bottom line.... I look forward to taking my kids up and taking advantage of resources that have stood idle during the summer months. This is really great news. |

Chlorine is the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about how swimming pools would be harmful. But, I'm not a chemist, or an environmental biologist who would be the people that would determine if something is destructive.
Either way, this is pretty amazing for us who live here because of recreation. Our quality of life is amazing... We are so lucky to live where we live. Hell, we're lucky to have highways that connect us to other cities for that matter. Keep in mind, I'm typing this while I'm sitting in Hyderabad, India.
It's not a surprise that a representative from Utah introduced a recreation bill. But, why does it even matter? Why is it even significant what party he is from? Why is it significant that he's simply doing his job?
More importantly, I think the original source of enthusiasm in Gene's post was that the law was signed by our president, showing an interest in recreation on public lands from the very top of our governing system. This is a huge departure from how the USFS has been managing USFS land for many years. Who knows what is next? Perhaps we will be able to snowkite on USFS land near Bend again, and perhaps we'll be able to get more convenient access to Lyle sandbar.

That is a seriously silly statement. The economic crisis that we've been in for years comes as a direct result of deregulation....and had't the governments around the world spent our tax dollars to fix it, we'd be even worse off. |
