pretty familiar with heavy wind...
waitin for the sun to come up for a morning session bfore wrk
i have 1000's of hours on SS bars (lots of SS bars, not just mine), never had a css line snap randomly. there can't be that much tension on it. if its worn out from 4 yrs of bar sliding then thats different, you shoulda switched it....of course, it is kiteboarding, and a lot of random shit does tend to happen ... frequently ...

I think the css in kind of redundant anyway. It might be good for a newbie or someone learning. If you ride a lot then might already know that hooking your leash to the end of the depower rope is a better alternative. If you do this once you pull the safety your kite flies away from you slowing for like ten + feet, then is like 99% depowered and drifts down to the water. You then reel your leash in, hook back in and go. Just like in the Liquid Force manual. So anyway I kept the bar and just tied a knot in the top of the bungee and cut the rest off.

I'm going to have to disagree with you big time here. Hooking your leash to the depower rope is not going to give you anywhere near 99% depower. Most of the time it should be enough; there will be times when it's not. The CSS system is going to give you more like 90% to 95% depower, compared to 70% or so with the depower rope. If you're out and the wind really picks up, it's awful damned nice to have the depower of the CSS on tap. Sure, you could grab an "Oh Shit handle", but then you're pretty much done; you're lines will probably tangle. The nice thing about CSS is near total depower and quick relaunch after deployment.
Something's probably wrong with your bar if you're going through bungee cords. Perhaps the insert has worn and is sharp?
