PostTue Nov 01, 11 12:26 pm    Dawn session at Rooster Wednesday? Reply with quote

Anybody up for a dawn session at rooster tomorrow? According to the aviation forecast there should be enough wind for big kites. It's going to be a brisk 37 degrees so I will probably bring my hood but I'm definitely considering it.

Any other sites forecasting easties at rooster tomorrow AM?

I have a meeting at 1pm so I need to be done by noon. Means I should probably get out there by 9am. Hope the wind is on by then.

Cold? Capt'n Kook doesn't get cold. There is no off-season. If it snows in the valley this winter I'm damn well gonna get me a picture of some kiteboarding with snow on the shore.

On a more serious note; gonna bring the hood/booties/gloves, and probably have a shortish session if it gets too cold.

Haha, I know. This time of year it's not far off though lol.

I was thinking about doing an actual dawn patrol and getting a session in before work. I'm thinking it might be better to work a couple hours and take a long lunch though since that's when other people will be there.

Its November dude. There are some freaks out in February at Rooster. Cold, but not freezing in November.

You are in luck.
Warmer and windier than expected this morning.
Wind speeds and temps are both in the 40's.

Heck yes. Guess I'm bringing the small kites lol.

EDIT: Holy heck it's cold outside, hopefully it's warmer at rooster than it is in Beaverton. Heading out. See you there!

Its nuked out here. Whitecaps across the river. Rollers visible from the highway. A brisk 9 degrees C. Might be boardable if it calms down a little.

Other spots if RR is nuked out:

Cottonwood in Washougal, though the wind is fluky till you get out in the channel. Nice beach though.

Camas @ the mouth of the Washougal on HGWY 14, if the construction guys don't mind you parking there. Crappy beach but the wind can be good there. This is the last year you'll be able to park there.

PDX @ marine drive by the boat launch between I5 and I205. Watch for glass and meth needles.

I tried going to the boat launch on Marine drive once. The wind might have been too light the day I went there but it seemed a little sketch. There's definitely glass on the beach so booties are highly recommended and getting blown into that steel wall was a concern because I couldn't stay upwind due to it being light. I had to leave early but the guy I went with said that if you walked up the beach a little and launched then it worked better.
