Mon Oct 31, 11 11:09 amNew Signage at Area B
Good soaring late in the day at Area B yesterday.
There was also some new signage. Not a big issue this time of year (or pretty much ever when you are paragliding), but it would suck in the summer to be reminded on your way in.
Seeing shark sandwiches on the menu at fast food places would make me happy. Just sayin.

Does anyone understand that sharks are the MOST important apex predator in the world? They keep the seas in balance by eliminating carrion waste and controlling pinniped populations, which left unchecked, would spiral out of control. Personally, I would be honored to be eaten by a shark.(I have been next to a friend who was attacked, it was pretty scary)

I don't recall seeing to many articles about seals biting folks, and I'm sure if they recovered to the point that we could hunt them we would.
Crabs and other scavengers seem to do a fine job of removing carcasses.
I'd rather see 500 fat crabs than one fat shark. Just my opinion. _________________ Lets FLY

Add to that humans kill between 25 and 75 million sharks a year. The number is probably higher. It is disgusting.

Yes, it is terrible. There are 7,000,000,000 of us humans now. Even at the high end of 75,000,000 sharks killed per year, that's only 0.01 shark per person! We can do WAY better than that.
C'mon people, get hungry. _________________ Lets FLY

I think there was a discovery program about shark killing in Hawaii and how the more tigers they killed, the more people got attacked by smaller sharks.

Your opinion makes you sound like a really ignorant person. People like you will eventually kill off all the sharks, eat all the fins, and smile doing it. Remember, we are the real stewards of the earth, and promoting things that HELP the earth will allow our species survive longer. Sharks, without a doubt, HELP the earth. That said, you are totally entitled to your opinions, even though they are fucked.

And I thought I knew much about sharks. Boy was I wrong after watching the documentary SHARKWATER! Any one who spends time in the ocean should consider this documentary to gain some understanding of these so miss understood animals and learn how critical of a role they play in our environment!

As you can see the scriffler has a good point. Conservation of the magnificent apex beast fish, aka great whitey, white death, Jaws, etc.. is in fact good for the environment. Though, as a 15 footer swims away with a mouthful of you and your favorite board you may not think so.
My least favorite shark, for those of you wanting to know, is the bull shark. Unpredictable and mean this little surprise expert can jump on you during what you thought was a quick walk on the beach. Nasty little fish, but important for the ecosystems.
The main culprit of Ocean ecosystem destabilization is massive nets used by the fishing industries. Don't get me wrong, for those you who want to know, I love Cod, but there is a limit to how much one can grill, ya know?
I love to fish. The best catch I've ever had was 5 reef shark on a fly rod. I released it. Can I get an Amen!!
Scriff you are my favorite numasissy, but you are right on this one. Toche' al tete de merde et moi.

I'm not sure where they got that clip art shark for the sign, but that thing looks like you would sit your kid on it.
I think the bottom line for most of us is: Sharks are real. Shark attacks are real. And so is the big grin on my face when I'm in the ocean... in the surf... with the sharks.

So am I to infer from this story that when other creatures of the water start swimming around you, something bad is about to happen?
So I guess FlyingDunes, next time your at Sauvies and a pack of whales aka fat naked people from the nude beach start encircling you, your about to be attacked by a huge sturgeon, pissed off sea lion, or maybe a rogue bull shark?
