I think we should reintroduce all the predators back into the game. There are way too many stupid people in the world now, I think the scales just got tipped over 7 billion. Survival of the fittest and natural selection worked for millions of years till humans screwed it up. Wolves and grizzles should be roaming the local hills if I could make the rules!!

By the way, I like White Sharks at our local beaches, it helps to keep the crowds down. Also, just got thru kitesurfing South Beach after work this afternoon, by myself, looked like a ghost town. Would have been nice to have a few others to kite with out there, but at least I had sharks to keep me company, and keep me honest!![/quote]

Thumb's Up Thumb's Up

Population control of the dim witted by predator.... Doesn't that kind of imply that its the stupid people who will be in the water with the sharks?

Unlike a bear or lion roaming the beach, if you are that afraid of shark attacks, stay out of the water. It is pretty simple. If you want to surf, deal with it.

I grew up surfing. Started at 10 years old. Moved here from Puerto Rico about 30 years ago. NW water is spooky. You can't see what's coming. I still go in the water, I just don't feel as comfortable.

I'd rather eat sharks than vice-versa. I just don't understand why sharks are protected. I think they suck.

Plus, it seems rather easy for someone from NV to recommend staying out of the ocean...

I have the Red Triangle 3 hrs away. I do not stay out of the ocean. I have still not been lucky enough to see a shark - I think this whole thing about sharks is a myth. I think these stories are from Oregon Coast locals trying to keep the tourist and the weak away. Bummer.

In all seriousness Flydunes, I am not picking on you, I just believe in harmony of all the species, including bears and lions on the beach. I think we should only kill to eat not because they pose a risk to us. The Oregon coast has some of the best kiteboarding and surfing, we can't let a few sharks keep us out of it.

I think sharks are protected because they've been over hunted at some point and are necessary to keep the ecosystem balanced in the ocean. They clean up a lot of dead animals and keep other populations in check. Etc, etc...

I'm not a fan of animals killing people, but that doesn't mean we should go and kill them all. On land it's easier to track an animal if one of them goes on a rampage. In the water it's hard to find a shark that might've attacked someone even if you wanted to.
