I'm new to the coast. Staying 1 mile south of Hug point near Manzinita for the next week. I have a 10 meter kite. Wind? Current? Can I launch anywhere or should I go down to Manzinita?

I've never been out around arch cape, however I know there are some underwater rocks. I'd just head down to manzo and launch from anywhere along beach street. Nothing exciting on the current except a strong rip at the _way_way_ north end, but there's really no reason to be that close to the head. If you drop your board, it'll head SE towards the beach in most places. I'm an anchor so 10m says well over 20. Tomorrow is looking iffy and rain. Tues is looking good, Wed, Thurs might also, but too soon to tell.

Thank you. I still don't know what my low threshold is with my 10, but Im comfortable if it's 17 and above. Sadly I tried gusts to 14 at Roosevelt and that just got me a milfoil monster in my lines. I will check it out tomorrow afternoon.

any marginal N wind day, head to manzo. possibly 10 mph more wind than other spots like cannon beach or arch cape.

when the north coast is going off, manzanita will be really windy, and is best to stay away from there unless you like riding tiny kites (5m or 6m)

south winds, nothing special about manzo other than easy downwinder shuttle

I have done nice south wind downwinders(not really a proper downwinder) the last 6 winters from arch cape to hug point. The outer reefs there are insane during big swells. The wind, on the other hand is a different story, gusty and gnarly at the arch cape launch. I would only recommend it if you are super bored, experienced and not all there. It can be super fun on the right day though. Never tried it on a north wind. Manzo is like a little skatepark all year and works on all wind directions.

Rare for it to setup in NW winds, lots of headlands and funky wind. I wouldn't sit around and sweat it. Just head to Manzo, plenty of good downwind options there.

Tuesday was steady 8m wind with a nice 5' swell and high tide, great day.

Today started out nice, steady 7 to 8m, but by 3pm the wind shifted out and got funky. It was OK down by the campgrounds, but the wind was very gusty, 7m to 10m type conditions. Waves were 2-3'.
