Been recovering pretty well from my Timberline shoulder injury.
Looking for a nice easy day on the water, looking at Kailua.
If you have any tips on kailua or nearby spots, let me know.
looking for the lowdown on some killer grindage anywhere on the island too if you know any good places

I just moved to the Gorge from Oahu, so I can mention my fav places! Kailua is a great little town with a fun place to kite, but the north shore(mokuleia is my fav) in the summer time is beautiful. Mokuleia has stronger winds usually too and beautiful clear water with big green sea turtles and dolphins who will swim with you. waves and flat water, its magical Smile

As for grinds: in Kailua I would do Lanilai Juice for the best acai bowls/smoothies, Kalapawai market is right in front of the kite spot and has awesome lunch, Lucy's for drinks, and Kimos for the best local breakfast!

In town: if you like authentic Japanese, try Kohnotori Yakitori. Its my fav place on the island and Im jones-ing big time for those perfectly grilled little morsels on a stick. Hole in the wall with cheap beer/sake, awesome staff, always a wait unless you get there as the door opens at 6.

...stay out of the swimzone...kind of thing.

In Kailua check out Fromaggio. Nice wine bar. Apart from that have fun Wink

We liked crepes no ka oi in Kailua . Awesome food. When your out kiting at Kailua and it starts sprinkling on you, beat it back to shore cause it's about to die. Then relax on the beach and wait for it to pick up again. Of course, I was there in nov, summer wind is more consistent.

Don't miss Hawaii Kai when the winds go Kona. (South) Great flat water spot. Get checked out on the boats over at Kaneohe Marine Base so you can hit the sand bar in Kaneohe Bay. Moks, as mentioned. gets thermals in the afternoon and can be good even when it's dead everywhere else. Great Thai food at the Thai Bistro in Hawaii Kai in the Costco parking lot. Kalapawai market by Kailua beach is great! Hit Kailua at dawn on a clear day. Being on the water when the sun peaks up and the mountains turn red from the sunrise, man that's a religious experience. Hit Kailua at night under a full moon. Haliewa has become just a tourist town. Sad Party at Restaurant Row. ( And Waikiki of course. ) Don't go to any of the tourist trap Luaus. My favorite wind forecast: http://www.windfinder.com/forecasts/wind_hawaii.htm
A bit optimistic, but the most consistently correct if you subtract 5 knots. Use the graphic, not the text. Dukes on Sunday from 4:00 til sunset: Great live music, by Henry Kapono, on the beach. All produce tastes better in Hawaii. Have fun man!!! Very Happy

Mokuleia is my favorite. The coral/rocks can be a little treacherous when launching at lower tides. Step wisely, coral cuts suck.

My favorite kite session of all time was Kailua Beach at midnight. Zero crowds on the beach and water. Not sure what was lurking underneath though.

Mokuleia is my hands down favorite. Crowd can be unruly on weekends. Low tide will break your fins off if you're not very careful. Watch how people are riding to get a feel for the drill.

Malakahana/Goat Island on the Northeast side of the island is great when the wind is more straight East. In my opinion better than Kailua. From the park walk around the bay to the South and ride across the bay to Goat Island. Stay away from the beach goers at the park.
