I was at Jones on Saturday with some stellar wind. Went out on a 9m Bandit over to nuke alley with another guy who was there and started working on unhooked backrolls for the first time ever. I actually managed to throw at least one very solid unhooked backroll going each direction in nuke alley.

Afterwords we came back to the beach and I had the guy that was there use my little handheld camcorder to get these videos. Unfortunately none of the ones that were recorded were exactly solid but I did ride one out on camera so I guess that works. You will have to take my word that I did manage to land a couple good ones.

For now though bask in the glory of my kookdom!

I had hella fun. I only wound up on the beach like that because I was trying to throw it close to shore for the camera. Made for some funny ass video though. Sometimes I still get confused in the air about which hand I need to pull with and those are the ones that result in me getting swung around and dropping the board.

I don't know if I'm gonna make it to Back Mobe this year but I'm sure as hell gonna try. Now that I have a kite that is designed for this stuff I'm progressing MUCH faster.

The falls weren't bad at all. I landed in the water each time so there wasn't much of an impact to speak of. There was one over in nuke alley where I steered the kite across the window by accident and it really picked me up and then dropped me straight down. That one hurt a little. With your kite fully powered like that there isn't much difference between skipping across the top of the water and being dragged over the sand. As long as there aren't obstructions you just stay calm and ride it out until the kite hits the top of the window. Then the power drops out and you hook back in; easy cheezy.

westbeach40, we definitely need to take that camera over to nuke alley next time so I can record your Back Mobe attempts. Also hopefully we can get some video of me landing a clean unhooked backroll. Even the best one we got on that video I wouldn't call a clean trick.

Time to start working on unhooked railey's and backrolls to toeside i.e. + a FS 180.

Called a Backroll to Revert. All you do is do a backroll, and pull the handle to your backhip. Work on getting your kite lower too. 45 degrees is optimal, lower than that will help you slack the lines.

With the kite that low it's not holding you up much at all right? So I just need to throw the backroll a little harder to get the full rotation?

Yea, you need more speed and power to get it. To really increase your pop you have to scoop with your front foot; Just imagine kicking a soccer ball backwards with the heal of your front foot. You should also think about holding the bar in, hard, with your elbows by your side, don't let it move an inch or it will soften your pop. Get that down and backmobes are just two more additional steps.
