I know there was an app thread before but I found an app yesterday that I really like so far. The name is PSWind. Its a totally free app with loss of sensors all along the gorge and into upper WA and other parts of OR. I'm not sure how accurate the sensors are to the condition on the water but I think its totally worth it to check this one out if you've got an Android device. |

So I finally broke down and registered here. I've been putting it off because I waste enough time on PSKite.
I'm the developer of PSWind (and also the admin for PSKite.org)
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.lokico.PSWind
Currently, the app is *very* Puget Sound oriented, but the plan is to allow you to switch your "home" location and get forecasts and conditions for that location. Portand, Texas, hawaii, florida, OBX, baja, etc. The real time wind map (omnimap) does have support for all of oregon already. The data is pulled from windonthewater.
If you tell me your #1 forecasting sites for the oregon coast and the gorge, let me know and I'll take the most popular forecasts and integrate them into the app. The idea is to make this the one stop shop for local forecasting and current conditions, whether at home or travelling.
Any feedback or other requests are, of course, welcome. _________________ Jeff Lamb

Wow! The developer responds to an app query here on nwKite. While searching for android apps for wind forecasts I found PSkite too, but it seamed mostly Seattle based. I will check it out now that I know it covers Oregon. Spots most Portlanders are interested in would be the gorge, Fort Stevens, Manzanita, Lincoln city, Jones beach etc. When I'm at home I could use mm5, noaa, windonthewater, thegorgeismygym, oregonsurf.com, various surf shop reports, gorgekiteboardschool and links to various cams.
I'd love a one stop android app especially with quick links to cams.
Definitely interested! Please, keep us posted on your progress.

I live in Seattle, so I know what forecasting sites works best for this area. However, I have to rely on locals to tell me the best forecasting sites for other locations.
I need specific links to forecasting sites as well as exactly what information on those pages you look at (I can strip out non-relevant data on those pages if necessary.) Thanks!
I plan to have tides, pressure gradients and useful webcams integrated into the omnimap. _________________ Jeff Lamb

Hey, I've got it running on an evo, looks very cool. Look forward to giving it a go, see how much I can trust it, ha ha. Pretty simple and quick. Thanks, loki980. _________________ Take the red pill... |
