Less coffee man. Not safe to charge at kiters. Glare all you want Second day you've done this. The more you do it, the longer I will kite there. I was actually on my way west to be on my own and was just passing through until you did that BS.
Not cool
Not necessary
Your bad behavior will not be rewarded
DO NOT EVER CHARGE AT ME AGAIN, please.
Thank You,
Eric

Not sure if you just kite or if you used to windsurf. But that guy(if it is the guy I am thinking of, could be wrong) does not like kiters he doesn't know from windsurfing. He might remember you if you talk to him. That said, sounds like that kite/windsurf truce party is really needed. You should spearhead it:) |

I windsurfed for 24 years. We have a bunch of mutual friends. Regardless, shouldn't matter. He does it again I will stay again. |

probably a better idea to talk to him in person instead of calling him out on a forum that he probably doesn't read _________________ BIP- "YOUR GIRLFRIENDS FAVORITE" |

Wow !
" I can't believe it " How is this type of behaviour tolerated ? To actually charge at someone .
So what if , it was a new kiter and he freaked and did all the wrong things and got hurt , equipment damaged or lost , etc .
I mean if your pissed and the object of your frustration is within earshot and you yell your shit , thats one thing but to actually take it to this level is in my opinion criminal behaviour .
I wonder if the guy has regrets but no as it's his second attack , this guy is a danger .
My hats off to you Eric showing restraint but this guy needs ..............

Better to just drop it Eric, let someone else fight it out with him, there will likely be others. No harm no foul right? But if there is harm, you could become the victim of a frivolous lawsuit. I was, back in the late 80's, over a windsurfing collision at Doug's that was neither parties fault. I just had the good (bad?) fortune of not being the injured one and being sue-able. My homeowners insurance paid the guy $25K, and this after I carried him on my back barefoot to his van and got him to the hospital. Moral- stay out of windsurfers blind spots downwind.
It's more crowded than ever out there yet people seem interested only in crowding into the same little patches of waves. Great waves at Mitchel point and upwind of Swell for two miles. |

I remember windsurfing out at the White Salmon bridge on a good swell day. I was super frustrated because kiters were bogarting all the waves making it nearly impossible for me to get a decent ride. On a windsurfer you have much less freedom to stay in the swell zone. You have to work much harder to stay up wind and lose more ground when you jibe. Plus, you're constantly schlogging when you're on the inside since your wind range is microscopic. Kiters can stay in the sweet spot all day long. Not only that, but it takes a looooong time to learn how to windsurf very well, so joining the other team does not seem like a very good option and only adds to the aggravation. So while, I totally understand why the guy was bent, his way of handling it demonstrates a huge character flaw. He definitely needs a talking to. A few percent of windsurfers are total pricks, just like every other sport (ours included).
I finally decided that kiting looked like a lot more fun that what I was doing and I changed teams. My windsurfing gear has been collecting dust ever since. I do try to be courteous to windsurfers since I understand their plight and their frustration with kiters. I probably would have done the same thing as you did in this situation, Eric.

I prolly would have looped my kite into his sail and ripped that piece of shit in half. Then self rescued myself while laying on his windsurfer board to shore, before having a bonfire using his piece of shit plank as kindling. Unless of course it was foam core, no reason to burn that shit. _________________ I heart dangling |

Remember when that new snowboarding "fad" had many skiers saying the same thing and some ski resorts actually banned snowboarding for awhile because those damn kid snowboarders were ruining the runs!
Think how far kiting has come so quickly so a few WS kooks are still hanging on to the glory days of the 80's but in general the WS crowd is really cool and most of the hardcore WS locals have written off the Event Site as a viable spot. When you play up at the Hatch or the Wall etc you might get some looks/attitude but it's not typical so Eric needs to consider the culprits angst could be more than just kiting if they guy took a run at him?
Kenja detailed well how difficult WS'ing is, and I appreciate when it's done well, but have you noticed the people learning to WS at the Event site usually just watch the kiters ride by as they wonder how the hell they are going to get back on their board and then pull the sail out of the water. |

AHH lets see...
your out there to have fun and so is he hopefully ( an assumption 4 both)
Maybe he cant see that for or can't turn his neck or something....
I guessl I would casually ride up, safely next to him and strike up a conversation...
Thats usually how tensions are best dealt with not some bullshit e-chatter where he may or may not read all passive agrostyle.
If you can't ride up to him in control of your rig and emotions maybe the other guy is scared of your skill.
my two cents now worth .5 sense ' damn economy..
maybe he dislikes the union..... |
