I took lessons in the gorge last year. If I had known about Nate's business last year I would have taken lessons from him. The rates he advertises are VERY competitive. I'm not sure what sort of mis-communication may be at work here but, if rates seem high to prospective students remember this is KITEBOARD not SHUFFLEBOARD. If you really want to learn... BUCK UP. _________________ Haole |

I think the biggest thing is that many of us have personal experiences with Nate that say otherwise, and thus the credence.
I don't doubt that what you have stated is what you think you heard Roxy, but I do doubt that Nate tried to gouge anyone.
Personal Story: I'm set up to take a lesson from Nate. I called him and explained what I wanted to learn. Then I asked him to tell me how long he thought it would take for a lesson to learn it, based on where I'm at in my own progression. He said, "we can get it done in an hour."
Many would have inflated the time due to profit motive, so I was pleasantly surprised how conservative he was, and had no intention of milking the clock.
Another thing he does, (which is awesome) is that your time doesn't start until the kite is in the air. This is much more generous than you will find many other places.
Props Nate! Last edited by beej on Fri Jul 22, 11 1:05 pm; edited 1 time in total |

If I had to do a lesson in cannon beach for a newb i'd charge more too its not a beginer spot lots of rip tides the wind is not the same as other spots and the People my god there's a lot. Manzo or north of seaside would be far better. Cannon beach is pretty ritzy and some of the people (roxygirl) feel entilted to some special treatment cleanline has been a good place for info but never talks about lessons its the ocean not the river or a lake. Please just pay the price learn the sport and keep your opinions too yourself everything in life is a ripoff til u can think for yourself |

I feel sorry for her husband, he will probably not be allowed to get a lesson now and he will miss out on the greatest sport known to man.
Hottie & High maintenance always comes with a High price. |

Lesson: find this board and figure out how to log in BEFORE calling the surf shops. They will take advantage of your tourist status.
If anyone else does lessons let me know! |
I can promise that what ever your paying Nate is prob less then most of the schools and no way is he taking advantage of your "tourist status". He's a great guy and you will be stoked you took lessons with him.
To be fair he prob has to charge a bit more cause he has to drive with all his gear to Cannon Beach. _________________ Join the CGKA! Membership is only $10! Sign up at http://cgka.net/become-a-member/ |

As one of Nates instructors I can honestly say he is one of the most selfless guys in this business. I have been kiting for ten years and have seen very few people with the positive attitude that he has. I taught today for 4hrs. and I left my house at 11:30 and I got home at about 11:30. That's twelve hours of work for four hours of pay. My point is, we do this for the love of our sport and to spread the stoke by making sure people learn how to kite safely. This keeps our beaches open and safe. I'm not going to bash anyone here but I do take offense to the notion that we are out there to take advantage of tourists. It cost a lot more to get my truck full of gear to the coast than it does to get it to Jones or Hood River. Thanks to everyone for their kind words about Nate, he deserves it. |

I want to publicly apologize to Kiteboardinglife. I posted on this thread--now edited out--that I believed him to be the alter-ego of Dudebroman the troll. I know now that I was in error and offer my sincere apology to Kiteboardinglife, who is in fact a local rider. I owe you many beers man. |
