Random question.

Has anyone kited in a Cascade Lake? Over the 4th I was camping at little Cultus lake and stopped at Cultus lake (http://bit.ly/lsYbJd) on my way home. The afternoon wind coming over the cascades seemed strong enough to kite.

Wikiup is kited occasionally. There are windsurfers at Odel but not sure about kiting.

Lots of trees at Odel, I think launching would be tough from shore, but maybe a boat launch would work.

Took all my gear to Davis lake over the 4th weekend, hoping for afternoon wind. I was rewarded on sunday. The SS Machine 17.5 was the ticket, but I was lit from 5-7pm. One fishing boat on the lake, it was epic. Steady mid teens the entire time.

I've kited wickiup several times- 14m everytime. NW wind needed. The skunk factor is stil high though. Even on the best forecast, you have to accept a 70%
chance of kiting. It is best to camp there and hit it when it happens. Usually, it is best from 5-8pm.

Crescent lake works on a south wind-had an epic session there once as well.

By the way, Wickiup will work today. Best afterwork place close to Bend. It's always cool to bag a session where you're not suppose to!

But nothing beats the gorge or oregon coast if you have the time.

Good to know. Next time I'm camping over there I will take my gear just in case. It is hard to beat the gorge or coast but would be sweet to say, if the session was good, "I've kited a cascade lake".

I have kited wickiup, suttle & odel lakes a couple of times each. Suttle is a short reach and tends to be gusty. Wickiup picks up late in the day, is generally light but it's fun when it happens. Odel lake is by far the windiest, picks up about noon and has a huge reach, the view when your' out on the lake is outstanding also. It's best if you have boat support, since the trees grow right along the shore pretty much all the way around the lake.
