Highly unlikely dude. It's an assload of work, everyone hates volunteering to make it happen, and to much chaos. You should organize a small private one. |

As a matter of efficiency, is there any chance CGWA and CGKA could share support resources and run Blowouts on the same day? _________________ revitalized by muthu-nachu |

The organizers for the Blowout and Gorge Cup windsurf races is VMG Events Ltd, but I believe they are insured by the CGWA, whos insurance provider specifically does not allow kiteboarding to be a part of any of their activities (their insurance is via US Sailing).
In the past, before insurance got to be even more of a pain in the ass, the kiters actually joined in on the windsurf blowout, but this was with a title organizer (such as Gorge Games) who would provide an umbrella insurance coverage over both sports.
The kite aspect of the Blowout is also requires a bit more volunteers and boats due to the amount of participants who do not finish and require either rescue or transportation. _________________ Pure Stoke Sports

I think we pick 2 days (1 as an alternate) and go for it. I can find someone to hold a flag on the Stevie beach and sound a horn to start if someone can find someone to note people landing. Everything in between is up to the riders. If you fall or wind dies, you swim to either OR or WA and hitch hike. Maybe do it as a 2 person team so you have a buddy system in place.
Let get it back to the basics and fun of the event and treat it like a drop in basketball game. Bragging rights only. No event fees, insurance, or rescue boats.
If CGKA just happened to have a party going on the same day at the event site, what a awesome unrelated coincidence. BYOB and BYO-BBQ. |

What Carol said! That would be better anyway. Commit at your own risk, but it would be that much more for the fun factor! |

Sign me up for that... Oh wait, no sign-up required. Whatever, let's just all meet up and go. Yes, I know that I can swim to one of the two states without help.
Maybe someone should start a Poll on NWK for a show of hands?

Only bad part of it is there is nothing to warn or help noobs about the funky winds. Could turn out to be dangerous without some type of ski support. I know it's kite at your own risk, but I'm positive no one wants to leave someone in the river to drown.
I love the blowout...but just speaking as the devils advocate. |

Speaking as someone who's done jetski support for a couple years... i'd say its pretty much impossible to really support the race when you have only a couple of skis/boats over a 16 mile course with 50+ kiters
You can only do your best and try to help as many people as you can.
Unfortunately because people have an expectation of jetski support, a lot of folks try the event that probably aren't ready for that kind of downwinder or even experienced kiters will be reckless because they expect to be rescued. |

I'll stash a case of beer at the finish and the first one to the reach it wins.

Carol and I usually make the Stevie to HR run a couple of times per year and sometimes one of those runs is not successful. But a swim to the WA side, a climb up the hill and over the tracks gets you in to the hitch hike home zone.
If the river keeps running the way it is now you could probably just wrap up and float all the way back to Stevenson.
Use the buddy system if you're not sure of your abilities or if the wind is sketchy.
