Jones looks like it might go tomorrow. Anyone thinking about heading up? Looking to connect and kite with some people if possible. If it goes I'll be there by 1:30.

Cheers,

Colin

Wish I could but I already took Monday off this week Sad Plus I probably should stay out of the sun for a few more days to let my mild sunburns fully heal. Have some fun for me!

Small Tacoma/Olympia contingent coming too. Will check Ast/Pdx pressure gradients at 10 & 11 am for final word. Then be there by 2. First trip of the year... high water, floating debris, and heavy ship traffic.
Regarding pressure gradients... I look for bigger numbers than today's showing before I commit to the drive:

Can someone post an OSR sometime after they get there / around 2pm. If I'm seriously lucky with work today I might be able to get off then and head out to meet you.

Jones doesn't get the skunk vs the forecast much. If it says it'll go, and its warm in PDX, i think you should just go. Its a 2 hour drive from portland, so an onsite isn't going to help you a whole bunch. Ummmm, wont know unless you go. In short, tell your boss a lie, cheat, steal, whatevz. Come september/october when it all cools off and the daily wind is hard to find, you'll wish you would've. dont squander these weeks yo, they'll be gone too soon

ikitesurf is saying Jone's will probably be mid to upper teens a little later in the afternoon. I'm guessing by 3 or 4 it'll be 12 or 13 meter or better. If you're going to be driving 1.5 hrs+ to Jones this summer I'd get an ikitesurf subscrip. Their Jones sensor is good if you go by the gust reading. Plus you can get wind alert texts. Its like 8 or 9 $ a month but if it saves you a couple skunks, well worth it at $4 a gallon gas. I'll be heading ou this afternoon if it goes.

I think you want the Astoria/Longview gradient for Jones beach. When we went on Monday it was 1 or 2 when we left and by the time we got done it was .05. I think it starts becoming kitable around .03 or .04 but don't quote me on that; and obviously the location has an affect on the pressure needed.

11:30 IKite update.....................

Modest late afternoon westerlies building for Stevenson and the Corridor as well as probably Jones Beach.

11:30am Update- I'm losing some confidence in the potential for Jones Beach to reach upper teens thanks to the increasing marine stratocumulus clouds that have expanded eastward across the lower Columbia late this morning. This isn't a marine surge, but a marine deck. If these clouds pull back a bit for the afternoon, Jones Beach should still reach upper teens. Meanwhile, for the Gorge, the gradients from Portland to the Dalles has already increased to a modest +0.04". Look for some upper teen peaks as the gradient increases slightly through the afternoon.

Oregon Coast: North Coast seeing weak morning winds with late afternoon NW mid teen peaks. Central and South Coast reaching upper teens to low 20's N to NNW winds. Mixed W swell 3 ft at 7 seconds and WSW 2 ft at 16 seconds.

Western GorgeWestern Gorge represents Jones Beach to Stevenson: Jones Beach reaching mid to late afternoon upper teen WNW winds. Hinges on cloud cover. Sauvie reaching NW low teens. Stevenson seeing mid to late afternoon gains to some upper teens.

CorridorCorridor represents Viento to Sandbar: Mid teen afternoon winds with late afternoon gains to upper teens and maybe even 20 at Swell.

Near EastNear East represents Mosier to Doug's Beach: Generally sub teen winds. Maybe reaching mid teens LATE.

Eastern GorgeEastern Gorge represents Celilo to Port Kelley: Light winds.

Talk about an ambiguous forecast! I'd still like to go if it's going to be kiteable. If anyone heads out please post.

Well - the gusts on the Ikite sensor just hit 12mph. The gusts on that sensor are generally the average wind speed. So if you have a kite that does 12mph - Jones is kiteable right now.
