Finally. But you can't really claim A-town until you've self launched off the other side in some sizable swell.

I was totally going MARZO out there.
You gotta bring your A game if you hit that place.

Its blowing 6M and at about 2:30 some kid from the WA side, self rescues on a 9m to the Oregon side. After he chills for about an hour, he gets Joe Blow off the street to hold his kite so he can self launch off the deck right behind the 10 foot tall concrete blocks. I YELL HEY NO STOP, NO STOP, DON'T DO THAT DUDE?

He is bound and determined to get back to the WA side. I tell him that I will call his friends and they can drive over and pick him up, or I will give him a ride to the bridge. He tells me that he can totally get across to the OR side no problem even with his 9M. So he has Joe Blow holding the kite way too far up wind and getting ready to launch. I start yelling NO STOP, NO STOP, DON'T DO THAT DUDE! I was supper nice and explained to him how quickly he could DIE and that the wind was way to strong for him. I asked him to just wait for the wind to die down and then try to get back to the Oregon side. He agrees......5min later Joe Blow has the kite and he is getting ready to launch the 9M kite again. I yell... NO STOP, NO STOP, DON'T DO THAT.....WHAT ARE YOU NEW?

The kid is freaking out....I gotta get back to the WA side. Ok, Ok I will launch you but this is what you got to do....I explained everything to him, we have a plan...So I launch him and everything was going smooth until he reached above his bar and grabed a back line and stared pulling...NO STOP, NO STOP, DON'T DO THAT. I told him to put his kite down and pull the release. Guess what folks.....He had it hooked suicide. I'm like DUDE WTF! are you doing? I ask him nicely, please don't kill your self in front of me because I cant deal with blood and broken bones, especial head trauma, that really freaks me out.

He talks Joe Blow into giving him a ride, I don't know where, I don't know his name, but I do know that I saved his life.

9m Kite kid, Please get yourself some lessons. I dont want my launch shut down because you "Didn't know"

Super sick out there! My 6m rpm was way sheeted but manageable. Loved hitting off da lip coast style. Big smooth rollers begged to be carved up sushi style! I saw Ryan stick a 7' strapless air, so sweet!

Seriously good job Bat Man. I've had similar experiences and they aren't fun when you try and help someone and they are determined to kill themselves...

Glad you stepped in TF. It only takes one bad incident like that to kill the stoke or worse close a launch with someone seriously hurt.

Nice pics out there guys!

Suicide is when your safety leash is hooked directly to your chicken loop instead of (or in addition to) your safety line. Many newer kites allow you to activate your chicken loop safety system and fall back to the regular safety system. It's for unhooked riding so it is easier to relaunch after dropping your kite.

I was camping at Roosevelt this weekend and somebody mentioned that the avg. wind speed that afternoon/evening was 34g45. I kited all three days, but that Sunday was amazing, and so raw out in those elements'Very Happy'

On the return back to Ptown on monday we stopped for more good times at Rufus, it was butter flat, with a ripping current, only needed a 9m for the sake of the current.'Laughing'
