Thanks for all the responses, and I really appreciate the offers to borrow trainers--I can already tell this is a very close-knit community! I'm probably going to seriously consider buying a trainer, but I most likely won't go out and blow a bunch of money on something extremely expensive. |

Good plug and well deserved. The Floras Lake crew is awesome and it's a great place to learn.
My main beef with the down wind body drag is that the skill that should be taught is how to drag across the wind or upwind to get back to where you started or back to where the board is. Very rarely do I have to body drag straight down wind but I always have to go left or right to retrieve my board.
I've seen the Maui and Cabarete instructors have their students do straight downwind tea-bagging body drags right along the shoreline and it just seems like a waste of time for the student and the instructor. Showing a student that they can get right back to shore where they started from on their very first session is a great confidence builder.

Boxer gotta learn to take a punch -so worth doing at least a few times.
Easy to do more in one lesson though,
if not done wrong:
Figure 8's >>> Downwind
Sinus turns >>> Reaching
Parked & body position >>> Upwind |
