Our sandbar guide desperately needs some updating:

http://nwkite.com/guides/hood_river_sandbar/

Things like: Event site access season, Marina beach launch, new maps, etc..

Anyone feel up to volunteering some work on it? Very Happy

New sign is in the process of being made right now.

We are hoping that the Port will have the new signage dialed in and up at the Event Site and Marina by the Opening Weekend on May 21st.

I'll send a note to the port to ask if they can speed this up a bit.

Thanks
Pepi

Signs will be ready and freshly posted around the end of the May.

The new signs ideally were planned to be ready for opening day on May 21st (when permits are then required for parking at the Event Site), but there are some unforeseen delays.

For the moment, please utilize the current safety rules and recommendations established on the current sign and remember to always launch/land outside the safety zone and use caution at all times.

New marker buoys indicating the 'no fly' and 'safety' zones will be installed later in the month as well.

We will keep you all apprised of these details as soon as the Port provides us with updates.

Thank you

Pepi, in the interest of full disclosure, I developed a more reality based map of the spit.

So, does this mean there will be better signage & less chaos/confusion? Here in the OBX now. Great kiting! The signs here are huge, and it's pretty smooth since people tend to actually follow the "rules". I took some photos of it all for you, the port etc. I will compile them. Seems useful. The kite yard has spray painted lines on the grass to indicate launch/land area. Also a sign for "pump only" area. There is also a person who is responsible for the area to inform people. They rotate people periodically. Once a person is informed, they get a colored ribbon to tie onto your harness to indicate that they are indeed aware of the "rules". No ribbon - no launch. Peers will diss you hard if you don't comply. This keeps the beaches open for kiting (apparently the gov is fed up & not messing around). No drama, less bitching and much safer. Very relaxed, helpful & fun atmosphere.

M.

Just like the Honeybadger, you stick your nose right into the beehive, not caring about how many stings you get.

Actually, you still overlooked the SUP'ers and the Super Dooper Kooks (you know... the ones that land their kite on your head when your not looking!).

Not to mention the random beer swilling boat owner who lands his boat in the middle of the bar and leaves it there all day.
